Is it me or does MA not rate Danny Jackman? Just asked as I see on the Gills website that he played in the development squad yesterday. Is he recovering from injury or just out of favour. If fit, I would have had him in the midfield against torquay... and he would have been a better replacemnt at left back when Martin went off injured...
In truth and probably the reason for no responses is no one knows the answers. I certainly do not. I think he is out of favour or does not fit in with MA's current set up but that is purely an assumed opinion on my part.
I tend to agree that he is probably not part of the 1st team in Martin Allens eyes for whatever reason. He did himself no favours when Allen brought him back in and he promptly got sent off for a bit of a lunge at home to Dale in what was our 1st defeat!
It seems pretty obvious that he does not fit with the current style of play which moves the ball far more quickly than Jackman would normally do. It is not a question of ability but a lot to do with style and instinct. I would give him a run in the team before reaching a conclusion but there is not much point in presenting evidence when the judge has made his mind up. Sadly it might be a case of up for sale in January and he might just produce a modest fee.
I would not be surprised if he left for a third term with the Cobblers on loan, with a permanent move in January. They are plagued by a long list of injuries and are now desperately short of experienced players. Danny is only on a twelve month contract here. He must feel at present, the way things have turned out this season, a new contract will not be on offer from MA next summer.
I think am prefers a tall(er) defensive midfielder when wet possible hence why Montrose and frampton are ahead if him there and hence why frampton gets in the squad over him for his ability to cover 3 posistions, lb, cb, dm and maybe lw if required. Unfortunately its a good headache for Allen to have that he has to leave a player of jack and undoubted ability out of the squad!
Thanks for the feedback. Thought I might have missed him being injured. Shame as a thought he was our best midfielder last season. Just shows how far the squad has developed and adapted under MA.
From the start I think we could see that Jackman was not one of Allen's top choices but we tried to shrug it off, it is sad but I think it is due to his height that he is not in the team because if you look at our team now a lot of them are over 5" 10.
