I thought we paid anywhere between 2.5m to 3,5m for a striker last January to score us minimum 15 goals a season? In the Championship, that is serious money to be spending on one player even if it is on a striker. Do we need to spend that kind of sum again on somebody from league one who may also turn out to be a dud? I hope the luck changes for Washington but at the moment, we have not got very good value for money on our investment.
Last night was a hard result to take. We were actually the better team. But a poor clearance led to the goal and it should have been dealt with. Aside from that, we started with one little forward up front because Polter wasn't ready. Sometimes I wonder... maybe we should just put our strongest team on, regardless of fitness. Try and win the game by half time then take off the heavy breathers after 65 mins. Start with Sandro, Polter and Shodipo. Let them do as much damage as possible. Surely that would be better than playing without any sting for 70 mins then bring someone effective on
Anyone know when Sylla is back fit? He has looked our best chance of a goal to me this season, with Pawel, Chery and Luongo supplying decent balls into him.
How frustrating to lose like that. Derby had posed no threat all game and really didn't deserve three points, but then nor did we. We dominated the game without ever seeming likely to win it and were heading for what would have been a satisfactory 0-0, given Saturday's debacle. A cruel end, but a decent performance, albeit with no real goal threat. 'Who's got the 10?' my neighbour shouted as the cross was launched. Nobody, was the answer. Another defensive lapse cost us the game. Cousins's best game yet coincided with poor performances by Chery and Luongo, but, even as ineffectual as Chery was, Gladwin was more so when he came on. At least Chery might produce a bit of magic, even on an off day. Keep him on the pitch. We have a decent bunch of players, if they are properly organised.
DT/Windom is taking a sabbatical from posting but was at the Derby game and asked me to post his take on it: "The football we played was outstanding, measured and patient against a very good balanced team Hall was outstanding in midfield and can easily play there in fact he is the answer so please support Beth she is 100% right and the flow and play was very good for a team that lost three on the spin The confidence will spread through the team if this carries on Yes our strikers are a little poor But this was the best we have played for a while In fact it was outstanding Even Ned grew in the game My sons mate Lynch was also brilliant but he has openly said to my boy that he is there for the money The flow of the game was all started by Perch who is a very good footballer he set the tone very early on There was not a whiff of panic Not worried if we lose as if this continues we could be QPR again Derby looked frustrated after 40mins as we matched them very well Best I have seen for a while Gladwin was the only poor performance and the crowd let him know because they have to do it It's the QPR fans that are the problem ... dreadful in fact "
I agree with all of that and backs up what I posted about the game. I'm disappointed about the Lynch reference, it sums up the modern footballer.
If true, it's despicable. No surprise maybe that he thinks that way but why the fcuk say it and rub it in.
I'm afraid the Lynch syndrome is a reflection on our owners having more money than football sense. It attracts players to the club for the wrong reasons (I'm not singling out Lynch who actually has generally provided value for money). If we had a rich astute football-savvy bastard for an owner, we'd probably fare better - unfortunately there are plenty of bastards out there, but few with the other credentials. Clubs like Watford, Stoke, Southampton, West Brom get it right
Not sure I believe the Lynch thing, on face value. I'm sure he gets paid more than he did at Huddersfield, but I'm sure he came with the belief that he'd have more chance of promotion (isn't hindsight great?). It's not like he's dropped a division and seems to put in a shift from the limited time I've seen.
