QUOTE Hoops look at South African gem By Graeme Bailey - Tweet me: @skygraemebailey. Last Updated: July 18, 2012 5:49pm Sky Sports understands that Queens Park Rangers are set to rekindle their interest in South African starlet Daylon Claasen. Mark Hughes first looked at the 22-year-old back in January, but a deal failed to materialise. But QPR are now ready to make a fresh move for his services, and with just a year left on his deal with Belgian outfit Lierse, he is unlikely to be priced out of a move. Highly-regarded Claasen is rated very highly in South Africa and many consider him as their new Steven Pienaar. The midfield schemer had an impressive campaign for Lierse last season scoring seven goals in 30 games, and now he could be set to be offered the chance of a move to the Premier League. A number of English clubs are believed to be keeping a close check on him, but QPR are very much at the head of the queue. UNQUOTE Another midfielder not defender, but highly regarded and young...A worthy target?
Don't remember the interest in January but he sounds interesting enough. Youthful and potentially cheep and there seems to be some quality being nurtured in the Belgian league these days.
Just had a look to see who he was........I'm very impressed looks to have energy, dribbling, pace and an eye for a killer pass and crops up with goals aswell. Looks to play centre and right midfield, which we could use strengthen in. Wonder how much he's worth????
At last, someone who plays with their head up!! Looks quick and strong, very comfortable both on and off the ball. Judging by the vid, he looks better than ki. Can't imagine the Belgian league is of lower quality than the SPL. He would probably be cheaper but not as commercial for the Asian market, plus it's yet another player to potentially lose at a crucial time to the ACON.........
I've been in south africa the last 7years and no thanks. i Dont think we want any south african player maybe Thulani Serero or Siyanda Xulu would be ok
QUOTE QPR are looking at South African midfielder Daylon Claasen and Blackburn's Steven Nzonzi as alternatives to Joey Barton. Rangers are ready to rekindle their interest in Lierse enforcer Claasen after he overcame a knee injury that he sustained at the end of last season. Boss Mark Hughes had been looking at the 22-year-old Bafana Bafana star in January, but a deal failed to materialise before Claasen's injury ruled him out of Lierse's final two matches of last season and South Africa's summer World Cup qualifiers. QPR are now ready to make a fresh move, and with just a year left on his deal with the Belgian outfit, he is unlikely to be priced out of a move. The midfielder had an impressive campaign for Lierse last season scoring seven goals in 30 games and is rated very highly in South Africa where they compare him to Tottenham's Steven Pienaar. Hughes is also interested in Blackburn star Nzonzi who is still highly rated despite underachieving last season as the Lancashire club were relegated. The Frenchman only signed a five-year deal at Ewood Park in 2010 but is reportedly unhappy at the prospect of playing Championship football. Rovers boss Steve Kean is adamant that he will only let the player leave the club for the right price. "He's asked for a transfer, hence why he never went to Austria," said Kean. "He doesn't want to play for the club any longer. I've had meetings with his father and he wants to play elsewhere. "We'll be listening to offers but as it stands he remains under contract and we haven't had any offers at all." UNQUOTE
I like the look fo him especially the defensive side of his game and plenty of energy.... young as well so not a bad looking prospect.
Does anyone know this guy first hand? There's a lot of difference between being the next Steven Pienaar and being a midfield "enforcer". N'Zonzi is a decent player.
He has an all round game looking at that clip but as an attacking player it was good to see him tracking back, putting in tackles all over the pitch as well as taking on players, scoring and creating.
He started off as a defensive midfielder for Ajax CPT he went to Ajax Amsterdam but didnât make the grade, he has been converted into attacking midfielder in Belgium has been in the national squad quite abit but has only played once or so. He is compared to Pienaar as they have a similar background (from Johannesburg) and both played for the same club in SA.
The clip made him look more like a Cahill type player - not so stylish but always in the right place IMO.
