Apologies if this has already been posted but came back on today to 3 pages of unread threads and unusually none of them were mine Anyway I thought Puncheon had a stormer yesterday and that was the best I've seen him play for Saints. Loved the ovation he got as he left the pitch too. Could be a real surprise packet for us this season IMO. Seems to be firmly back in Nigel's plans. What do others think?
Although I do not like him because of his attitude and previously has shown bits ofskill but delivered next to nothing, I must admit he has had a storming week with a great goal in the cup and played out of his skin yesterday. So well done Punch keep up the good work and you "might" win me over if you show this level of committment to our club
Played very well yesterday, looked like the first time in a long time that he was genuinely enjoying himself in a saints shirt. He knows that his performance have to be top drawer as Ramirez will be chomping at the bit to get going.
He worked really hard and that was the important thing. He has ability by the bucketful which isn't any good if you don't apply yourself. He did yesterday.
The player who impressed me most yesterday was Ward prowse. He worked his socks off all afternoon and he plays so well with Morgan and Davis. For a seventeen year old he has such maturity and he is an intelligent footballer to boot. He was not overawed by Manchester United which in itself is an indication of his maturity. As for Jason he was sublime yesterday which makes you cross about how he has messed things up for himself and the club previously. What has made the difference for him I think was playing with Clyne and what a great prospect he is. Everyone is saying how well we played yesterday. In the Times it reports we outplayed them for all but the first and last 5 minutses and I think that is correct. That being said just how good a side are we going to be if they develop at the rate they have and the three new players live up to their reputations.
Puncheon is now punching his weight if you pardon the pun. He always was one of most talented players, but he let his standards drop. He had a rift with the club and I don't think the stick he got from fans helped. I think our view of him may have been distorted, because he had the character to come in to see NC and try and sort it out. What he said must have been convincing because he was brought back into the fold. I suspect that Nicola could see it was pointless to spend a few million on a midfielder when you already had a decent one on the books. At the very least, we'd build him up into an asset to sell. The team were happy to have him back so I don't think he's as bad as painted. He was oustanding yesterday, worked well with Clyne and kept cutting in trying to create opportunites. I expect him to get a couple of goals this season.
He certainly boosted his transfer value yesterday! Great game and seems popular with the est of the squad. Long may it continue!
Yeah, I'm getting happier with Puncheon, and he does seems to be very effective. Odd really, because he appears to lumber about, all upper body strength, without any real acceleration and pace. Then again, he can be fast once he winds himself up. Technically, he is extremely good, and he certainly beats his man more often than not, and is able to cross the ball with either foot. For me, he stills needs to be concentrating when on defensive duties. In every match I've seen him play recently, he's lost his man on a couple of occasions, allowing chances to develop. A work in progress, but one that is certainly on an upward swing.
he will lose his place to Ramirez against Arsenal, as will JWP or Davis to make room for Lee or Mayuka. We will see if he starts to throw his toys once he is a sub
Puncheon is actually really surprising me with his good performances. He'll prove a good squad player I think.
He keeps the ball really close to his feet, has a low centre of gravity and has decent acceleration. Always had potential, but he's only ever shown it sporadically.
Good to see most of us are backing him. Think he's changed some of our opinions of him. We all learn from our mistakes. Good on him!
It seems like Puncheon has found a new willingness to play now we are in the premier league, can only bebefit us really.
people say this whenever he gets game from us where he can play with an air of freedom. As soon as he makes one mistake next game, people will be on his back.
We are a creating a situation where the players have to play for their place because of the quality additions we have made to the squad. I like Puncheon, he's come good, and obviously has the qualities we need in the squad. He needs to keep it up though with Gaston waiting in the wings!
