He made the point that we could only realistically win 2 of 3 trophies due to the fact we cannot win the league as we are not yet ready (and wont be for at least two seasons at best.) But we he was getting at is that we have had a really good season is we win the FA Cup! and it will be a good base to build on to get that "winning habit" that unted have in their side.. Good day, DR.
I'm not a fan of Tony Pulis but he does speak sense on this occasion. Winning the league will be extremely difficult but it doesn't mean that we shouldn't try to. Champions League football is a realistic target and we should definately be up there. I was hoping the Carling Cup would have sparked some form but it actually had the opposite effect on our players. The FA Cup would certainly give the whole club a boost and is more meaningful than the Carling Cup (IMO!). Winning the double is a great achievement but should not be used to paper over the cracks which is our poor league form. I think winning the Carling Cup and potentially the FA Cup would have more effect on the new players such as Hendo, Carroll, Downing, Enrique, Adamn who have not won anything or experienced playing on the 'big stage'.
Whilst I hate to say it, I think Pulis does have a point. Next season I believe that we will be in a far better position to challenge. However I feel that our realistic objective will be 3/4. Begining this summer, I believe that we will very carefully add more quality to our side. If we do that over 3 windows then a true challenge for the title could be well on. The basis is already there.
Agree with whats been said. Look at Spurs, there is a real possibility that they will come 4th/5th, miss out on Champ League (if Chelsea beat Bayern) and not win any trophies. Yet they have been hailed as having a good season. Where as we will be in the same European competition as them and potentially going into next season trying to defend 2 cups.
