    A quick question.
How many Toon players can you think of who have (either before or after playing for us) won the World Cup?
I can only think of Guivarch.
Apparently there are 3 according to my landlord the other night.

can only think of guivarch as a player, we did have ardilles and charlton as manager though. Maybe he's confused or they both turned out for a game or two or there's someone we're forgetting...

George Eastham was a member of England 66 squad, but didn't play.

Didn't Boumsong win the world cup when still was 'a footballer' for Newcastle?

The only thing that I can think of, regarding the orginal question, was if any player won the World Youth Cup or played in a film or programme such as, for example, "Dig For Victory" or that one with Dennis Waterman about West Auckland.

I do suspect a bit of a twist to this one, I have to say.

Probably somebody like Johnny Wilkinson in Rugby.

Got my head done in, only Eastham that I can see, and presumably he got a medal being in England squad.

Edit : George Eastham finally received a winners medal a couple of years ago along with all other members of the squad that didn't play in the final.

If Jonny Wilkinson then perhaps Rob Andrew as well.

Depends on how 'us' was stated. Did the publican in question say "Newcastle" or "Newcastle United"?

We had Italian world cup winner Massimo Oddo on trial way back in 1997 and said "nah" would he count?

Ah of course. I believe he captained the Brazil team to victory in 1970, before managing the Germans in 1990 and the French in 98. He of course missed America 94 as he was too busy preparing for his first mission to the ISS and celebrating his Oscar success the previous year...
