No sorry Ak - that was, as you so, later. This one comes from the 1940's. Will start giving out clues soon.

How about Old Mother Riley films of the 40s?

Played by Arthur Lucan - not the aforementioned Lord. ;)

No, nothing right yet. Though I admit the question may be a bit misleading. He actually played a real bitch.

Is this referring to Lassie? Pal was a boy doggie and Lassie was a girl.

It is indeed the first Lassie film - made in 1943 called 'Lassie come home'. The original Lassie was intended to be played by a female collie - but apparently she started losing hair during the shooting - so they replaced her with 'Pal' a male collie. Over to you Bloother.

Thanks Cologne, it was the clue wot got it. Bit short of inspiration, so I'll go for an open line. Which 20th Century classic opens with:

Mr Jones, of the Manor Farm, had locked the hen-houses for the night, but was too drunk to remember to shut the pop-holes.

That's the one BB. Apparently Lord Kitchener thought it would be easier to defend if designed in that way. over to you.

I have a feeling I may have asked this one before, but keeping with the African theme - which city named its streets after Australian Rugby League stars?

For all fans of obscure information, the god is 'Cliff'.

What has this 'Cliff' got to do with nuts and bolts, and thingmajigs?

Anything to do with Orbital Fasteners in Watford whose great advert covered up the web cam of the new East Stand. Think that the man who owns it is a Cliff somebody or other.
