You're on the right track cologne - the initial game had all male figures, but had its roots in India. What I'm looking for is the reason why one piece suddenly changed gender - the answer has something to do with the circuitous route the game took from India to Spain and Europe in general.

The answer I was looking for was to do with language. In the original Indian game, the piece was known by the Sanskrit word mantri (minister), this translated into the Persian word farzin, which in turn became the Arabic word firz. When the game reached Europe - in particular, France - firz became fierge - which is close to vierge, French for virgin. Religious fervour at the time saw the 'virgin' as the mother of Jesus - and the chess piece became the 'Queen of Heaven'.

    So the story goes anyway...

    Who wants to take over?

It was green because the oxidising agent in Vulcan blood is copper as opposed to iron in human blood.

Dr Spock's blood was/is red. I'm not sure if he is still alive but he repudiated all his earlier ideas on potty training.
Don't know the colour of Mr Spock's blood.

    Bingo NZ.

The question was Doctor Spock, not Mister Spock.

    Over to you NZ

I think the time in NZ is something between 5 and 7 in the morning, so we could be waiting for a while.

When standing was allowed which English football team's ground had the largest capacity? (I hope I'm right about this!)

Charlton was the biggest at one time, I think, too, but not the biggest ever.

As far as I remember the biggest crowd at a club ground in England was at Maine Road in the old days of cloth caps - pre war - so I'll say Man. City.

No. It's not that obvious. Maximum capacity at this ground was not achieved.

Assuming the term 'football' also covers Rugby League, the Odsal Stadium in Bradford where the capacity was over 102,000 ?

Football means "Association Football" and 102,000 is smaller than this ground.

    No.

I'll give you a clue. The ground stopped being used for football in 1932.

Not White City. The other side of London. It is the team that I am looking for. They are no longer in the league.
