Promotion odds

Coral have got us on 5/1 promotion, 14/1 winners...

Is it only me who thinks that's mental? No way are we that likely to go up, surely??

 

I was looking at this last week, I reckon our fans are on a high after promotion and the bookies were hoping that we would get carried away and place a bet so they put us and Brighton up there as favourites for promotion.

well Norwich City done it, and we beat Norwich last season. so i think we got a good shot at the play offs, i hope anyway.

A lot of sides have nearly similar odds. They've gone for the usual suspects (teams relegated from Premier League) and given long odds for teams in trouble (won't mention any because our blue friends are being nice today; damn, given it away). The rest are arrived at by sticking a pin in the board. The odds will start to be realistic by Christmas. Also the odds could be low because Saints fans are pouring money on.

 

Slightly mental that we have better odds than Blackpool.

 

Odds are a factor of perceived liklihood of result vs weight of money behind said result. They mean very little.

 

Crazy but I guess they are trying to get people to cash in on the happiness and confidence after being promoted.

 

Absolutely true, but I'm still offended if our odds are too long.

 

Yes, Fran. From a punters point of view though, the best thing would be to start a rumour such as, "Oxo gone!" and hope to see the odds lengthen prior to betting..... Oh!

My point was that I thought 5/1 made it look far too likely we'd go up - I didn't think it likely we'd even finish in the top half. Now it seems I was wrong - even if we don't go up we came far closer than I gave us credit for. I'll hold my hands up on this one"

Have to admit I was totally thrown. I looked at the date in a despairing chance of the answer. It worked.

for the record, though this thread was very stupid (good old hindsight), I must admit I put a tenner on the 5/1 promotion...

 

Some would put money on from sentimentality...bet very few of us thought Saints would have a chance at title. Play offs would be the most hopeful punt. Only the end of the season will show which was right.

 

I see, I didn't realise this was such an old post, sorry Dan . I think they are great odds now .
