Cheers mate <ok> it is very annoying though for a club like ours who are never gonna win the prem... maybe if crystal palace was in two days time then I'd understand a bit more, but the lads have a week off - I just don'#t see the need to rotate so heavily.

Out of interest, what brings you to the Sunderland forum? Not a dig, just curious <ok>

Personally I think he is referring to Larsson and Colback, both were absent today, at least Cattermole had the balls to get sstuck in and OK, he made some massive mistakes but he stood up and was counted. Larsson just does my tits in with his constant arm waving and trying to blame anyone but himself, he contributed **** all today and neither did Colback.

Come on BBC. You're not usually so blinkered. And Baz is 'right', but not SO right!

First half was 50:50. We were undone by 3 individual mistakes, 2 by Catts. But they were no better than us, so let's not go looking for scapegoats. Gus made mistakes today, yes, by changing half the team, but the guys he put out were supposed to be good enough to do the job. And they weren't.

Hi, to be honest I was interested to see your forums reaction as your exit mirrored our one to yourselves in the previous round quite considerably. A lot of our fans were peeved, to say the least, especially as we are fairly secure in the mid-table and unlikely to be winning the Premiership anytime soon. The managers selection was questioned and many felt a great opportunity was overlooked and mutterings about how seriously we were taking the cups was debated. I have no answers but certainly we did stall for a few weeks after the FA Cup defeat.

I enjoy perusing other forums as I get bored solely debating with one set of fans, so long as things are not confrontational! Good luck for the rest of the season, I think you should be just about ok, but you need points not games in hand as promotion experiences have shown us.

Lets be fair only one goal was Catts fault, he was not to blame for Mylers goal, this was down to poor organisation, the main culprit today was probably O'shea who is just not good enough for the job of defensive kingpin, Curtis Davies was literally head and shoulders above him and this was the main difference between two poor sides. This is by no means the first time this has been the case and it is the main reason we are in the mess we are in. Bruce has a lot to answer for but he hides behind his origins using this lame excuse to mask his failings and this is why we hate the fat bastard.

Gotta disagree mate. Catts was clearly to blame for 2 goals. All 3 goals were defensive mistakes.

I'm a fan of Catts. But he should have been taken off at half-time after his yellow card.

(I've also questioned whether Catts should be playing at all - he drives me mad with his impetuosity).

I just think Gus got it wrong today, team, tactics, etc.

At the same time I'm not not gutted at all.

The PL is all that counts for me.

Catts bottled the Meyler one. Purely down to the yellow the Hull players gave him in the first half. Ok so slightly to blame but most would've lambasted him had he gone for that and got himself a second yellow. Yet he had control. I. Thought he should've stick his had on it. Third goal was Altidore's fault. He has to be blamed fir something :D

I'm not the most vocal on here, but Cattermole is, and has been, the weakest link for a long time. There's a lot of love for him on this site but I have never understood it.
Sure, he goes in for tackles, but so do most 10 year old defensive midfielders on a saturday morning, and most of them don't end up with a card to show for it. His blind passing to players he thinks are there are shocking for a division one player let alone premier league. His vision is average at best but is coupled with awful long-range distribution, and a lot of his forward distribution leaves the receivers with little to work from. He backpasses or back turns A LOT - even when he has space to move - and I've noticed a lot of opposition teams pick up on this. He acts pressured into passing with first touch more than he should, something I've noticed more under Poyet, so that may be tactical thing. He has very little awareness of opposition players around him, so much so that I actually wonder if he is a) deaf and cant hear his team/crowd, b) has poor spacial awareness, c) is ****. Can't blame him for poor aerial challenges as he is a midget, but he does tend to pick up tall players in the box, rather than small ones/stay on edge of box/goal line/corner blocker (again, could be tactical, but I have no idea why?).

You see glimmers of skill in all players, and on occasion he has them, but for overall consistency the guy is championship quality, and I praise Gus for making moves to sideline him with Bridcutt.

As for the match, the buck will always stop with the manager, and I think the teams narrow shape and weak team made us look terrible. There were individual errors all over the pitch (I think Bardo and Ustari were probably the best), and I think the worst player yesterday was Dossena (did he do ANYTHING right?!), but I can't stand any more of this Catts praising - the man is a big yellow spot that needs squeezing.

"Wes Brown and Craig Gardner were injured, Altidore and Roberge ill, Giaccherini started and he is one of our most expensive players, Fletcher is coming back and Scocco needs to play.
"There are no excuses from me, if someone wants to look for some, then fine. I'm man enough to say we played 11 first-team players that were certainly good enough to win the match."
