Swansea had a lot of possesion yesterday some where in the 60% bracket depending on what paper/website you read but what a lot of there fans fail to grasp is that territorially we had 50+%. Basically if your going to pass the ball about in your own half you anit gonna score many or win many games. It doesn't matter how much possesion you have it's goals that count hence why they didn't deserve anything from yesterdays game
Maybe should have made the text 2 sizes bigger, and perhaps a nice shade of lilac.......... Nah but your 100% correct.
Spot on. The aim of the game is to score goals. We got 2. They got none. The fact they were playing blot of tippy tappy training ground stuff in their own half meant nowt. They got away with it in the championship but not in the EPL.
The frustration for me was seeing Swansea being allowed to play from the back, as Cest just said, they played around in their own half not really hurting us at all. but I would have like us to push on them alot more. I didn't rate Swansea that much...they kept the ball for long periods, but the only shot Mingolet had to save was from a free kick..other than that, he didn't have much to do. But hopefully we won't allow a team to have that much possession again.
If we pressed it may have given them space to play a ball in behind to their wingers. MON knew what he was doing and tactically succeeded!
Before we scored our first goal we were pressing them at the back, but after that why should we chase the ball across there back four as they are the ones who should be in ahurry not us ?
Spot on. That's exactly what a Swansea-type team is looking for - and if we were daft enough to fall for it, they have the pace on the wings to make it stick. I think MON got it dead right.
As a Swansea Jack is painful to agree with all the above, but agree I do - Have been a MON fan for years, the guy is a master at motivating his players; setting personal goals and giving them the confidence to achieve them - the guy is quality, you're lucky to have him! Hope to have another trip to the SoL next season - have a great laugh with you Mackems, great supporters and you really make away fans feel welcome; none of this 'home fans only' rubbish in your pubs - down to earth and freindly folks and a pleasure to swop banter with!
Never been a big fan of stats and especially the possession stats they mean that one team kept hold of the ball more than the other, big ****ing deal. As said the only stat that counts ever is the final score. Was at the game Saturday and to be fair to Swansea I thought they played well but just lacked that killer touch in front of goal, very much like we have been most of last season and the majority of this so far. All this tippy tappy stuff is fine if you like that sort of thing but, with no end result what is the point? At home Swansea are very good and the tippy tappy stuff works well for them but, away from home they need to change it round a bit. All in all a good game on Saturday and, it went the way most predicted tough but, with us coming out on top.
Didn't Mignolet have only one save to make and hew could've chucked his cap on that?? They played some nice pass and move football but never hurt us - we defended really well and took our chances (and if you see a game with 2 better goals this season I'll be surprised!!) Good luck to the Swans as they play some nice stuff but it will not be very effective if you can't hit the target!!
You had more of the ball so what You made more passes so what you had more shots so what you scored no goals we scored 2 thats what. Always thought that the object of the game was to score more goals than the other team. But now I have been told by some of the Swansea fans that it is to keep the ball more than the other team I suppose we should give Man City, Wigan, Sawnsea and Blackburn the 3 pionts we have been given just because we scored more goals than they did!
