Listening to Pompey Player - Chairman McInnes has written in his match day notes that we have to get 4 points from the next 2 games...... no pressure there then for Andy Awford.
1-1 at Half Time. Stats, according to BBC Possession Pompey 59%-41% Southend Shots (on target) 4 (3) - 4 (3) Corners 2-3 Fouls 4-6 Yellow Cards 0-1
Neil Allen @pn_neil_allen 3m3 minutes ago #Pompey 1 Southend 1 HT. Webster/OG to give the lead, but once Shrimpers equalised the belief disappeared and visitors dominated since.
Guy Whittingham got sacked when we dropped to 18th. Mind you Ritchie Barker took us down to 21st. Awfs isn't going to get 4 points out of 2 games now. Unless we score in the last minutes of the game.
Everyone's view is that Andy Awford is now 'dead man walking'. Fratton end singing You Don't Know What You're Doing when Barcham was subbed. 2 minutes to go + added time
Corr sent off for Saaaarfend. Paul McCallum sent off for us. In the dying minutes both teams down to 10 men. Disgraceful. Boos ringing out at FP.
I read the match day notes........and could not help but think is the McInnes speech a sort of message to the faithful?..........during the first 30 mins i thought we had plenty to see the game out......those thoughts changed about 4 mins later when saaaarf end got their goal.......for me, there only looked one side capable of scoring a second.......and when AA took arguably one of our best players off you could just feel the pressure build in the ground....... One word for me "DESPERATE"
Everyone is talking as though Awfs has already gone. It's a real shame that another legend fails. Urgh.... we could end up with mad-dog
If AA is sacked who exactly do you replace him with? Perhaps he will choose to discuss things in a calm manner with the powers that be and choose to go back to coaching the youth team where apparently he was very good. Just a thought though how is a manager supposed to imprint himself on the first team in less than 10 months given the chaos that he walked into. Anyhow good luck AA and I hope the supporters and club treat you with dignity!!
There isn't a great deal of confidence that the board will make a good appointment next time, based on their 3 mistakes so far.
makes you wonder about the story that AA has put on hold any further contract talks with players.............if he is not going to be there to over see them, he shouldnt sign them
Neil Warnock any-one? He's currently out of work, and has won promotion from this division [via the playoffs] twice; with Notts County in 1990 and Plymouth Argyle in 1996. He has also won the League One playoffs as manager of Notts County in 1991 [back to back promotions] and with Huddersfield in 1995. More recently he has got promotion to the Premier League with Sheffield Utd in 2006 and Crystal Palace in 2011. .....and if the worst happens, he won the Conference with Scarborough in 1987! He has an overall managerial win percentage of 40.17%. P 1322 W 531 D 374 L 417 Equivalent over 46 games: W18 D13 L15 = 67Pts
It was a game that we could and possibly should have won but once again we didn't. I do feel that the minute the opposition score we just lose control. Pompey played well today for about 25 mins in first half and again in sporadic patches in the second forcing there keeper into a few very good saves - particularly when we were behind. Barcham, Devera, Robinson, Atangana and Wallace (on and off) all played well - Tubbs got no service of use all afternoon - there is a growing sense in me that change does need to happen - I did today wonder if we had a plan B - and taking off Barcham and Atangana were strange decisions to say the least. The poor kid Webster needs to drop out of first team action for a spell as I think he is struggling - his passing is very poor and he looks to be lacking any confidence. Only a week or so ago I said I was quietly confident we wouldn't go down - after today I'mnot quite so sure. A deflected winner for them today and in the disappointment we shouldn't miss that some players had good, and indeed very good games. Our next 3 home games are must wins.
Team did their best, but just not good enough unfortunately. I admire Awfs for saving us last season, playing some great attacking football, BUT, as this season has gone on, he seems to have thoroughly lost his way, and reading between the lines does appear to have some kind of "personality problems" with a few people (Alan McLoughlin/David Connolly/Ricky Holmes ?). In addition, his playing tactics and timing/choice of substitutes leave a lot to be desired. When Ryan Taylor was waiting to come on, I don't think any fan (probably from either side) imagined in a million years that it would be the best player on the pitch in Andy Barcham, being taken off. What was Awfs thinking ?! With Barcham off, who did he think was going to provide the crosses for our three strikers ? I really do hope that Awfs resigns, to maintain his dignity, rather than wait to be sacked. Who should take over as manager though, and who could we afford ? As Meowth said earlier, not someone else from within, or an ex player please !
