You back in the game Phill? Good stuff.

OK, there are different schools of thought. Some say the Qur'an is original whilst others (mainly Christian groups) say much of its teachings were plagiarised from the Bible. Fact is the Muslim holy book is a lot younger by about 6 or 7 hunderd years if memory serves by which time Christianity was well and truly up and running. This isn't opinion, it's fact.

My opinion is that it was understandable that Mohammad 'borrowed' stories from the region to suit his own agenda. Most modern Muslims don't actually believe their holy book was written by Allah. Examples include Mohammad's journey into heaven clearly taken from a similar Christian story, and there are many others. More accurately, Mohammad drew on local folklore in the region to serve as parables and fables. An example is the story of a hero whose name escapes me that matches almost exactly that of Alexander the Great, who actually DID exist. But there is little doubt (yes this is opinion based on timeline) that he drew from Christian tenets.

Others disagree and say there is no plagiarism, but the Qur'an does contain story lines that are remarkably similar to the Bible together with local folklore of the region and when you fit that with the chronology it's easy to see the conclusion.

It all bullshit, the lot of it, anyone with half a brain cell can see that. Comfort food for the weak and nothing else. When I die, I die, I don't come back as anything else, I don't go to heaven, or hell, I just cease to exist. If there are those who want to pretend that they have a future after death, then good luck to them, but whilst they sit there believing in some hocus pocus man in the sky, I will live my life and enjoy every minute I have of it, because I know, once I am gone, I am gone.

I think I might go and start a religion on the Mr Men, and claim the books are truth, I am sure there will be some sad people out there that would believe me.

these people are either following by fear (dread to think what the penalty is for leaving the religion), or are just too thick to question what they are following or have a complete lack of capacity for independent thought, a bit like north korea but on a bigger scale.

in our family, and most christian families i know, we were given a choice when we were old enough if we wanted to continue going to church.

thats how it should be, not forced upon you using threats of death and the like.

Exactly and it is why the Arabs needed a crutch and their own holy book, due to having been throughout history in the Shadow of the Jews when it comes to God. The Quran is a poor copy of the Bible in parts, and then when it speaks on it's own originality it becomes farcical.

The same can be said about you proving it true :p

But dinosaurs.......no mention of those in the bible, yet we know they existed many many many many many years ago, so was it before mankind, be a bit funny if it was after, as we would have known more about them had that been the case. So they must have pre-dated man kind, and what day was it that God supposedly created mankind? Day 6 so a quick google search tells me, so Dinosaurs were created, and killed off within 5 days, but then the Earth wasn't ready on day 1, so less time for the dino's to roam around before the creation of man.

Well that's the point Valley - isnt it up to those who say they believe in a positive to prove its truth? Dawkins talks about a teapot going around Saturn. Of course nobody can prove it ISN'T there but there's a very high probability it's not.

As for dinosaurs, both Christians and Muslims point to references to 'great beasts' in their holy books, such as serpents and monsters but this is done in passing as allegorical tales. In neither is there a suggestion that they were the dominant species for millennia and were extinguished over 65 million years before man came along, and you might think that's a pretty glaring omission.

It would be heresy if you think about it because the whole point of these religions is that we are the chosen ones, a 'special' species designed by God himself. In other words, it's diametrically opposed to Darwinism and that's why religion is the epitomy of Man's arrogance imo.

Dragonborn (Knackered) has made a reasonable statement of the 'Great Beasts' but the book of Job mentions two monsters the 'Behemoth' (Land Monster) and the Leviathan (Sea Monster). Some young earth creationists identify Behemoth as possibly a sauropod dinosaur, claiming that no other animal but a sauropod dinosaur has a tail that "moves like a cedar". The belief that the earth is less than 10,000 years old and that dinosaurs and humans lived together, however, contradicts the scientific consensus that the earth is over four billion years old and that the last of the sauropods became extinct about 66 million years ago when a large asteroid struck the Earth.

    Dictionary.com

Any creature or thing of monstrous size or power:

The original behemoth is found in the Bible. Job 40:15-24 describes a land-dwelling beast having mythic proportions (a tail like a cedar tree) and supernatural characteristics (bones like bars of brass and iron). The Hebrew word that is used ( bəhēmōth ) is the augmentative plural form of the word for “beast” or “animal.” Normally, bəhēmōth would translate as the plural noun “beasts,” but as it is used to describe a singular being, the interpretation is that of a mighty or monstrous animal.

Yeah I read up on it as I became impatient, and yes, it mentions something in the book of Job, the Leviathan, which they also called something else from Jewish something or other (tanhak??, cant recall exactly), seems more like a snake, rather than a dinosaur. As for the behemoth, still uncertain, how does a cedar move exactly, I am assuming its regarding the cedar tree, who knows, I haven't got a clue, but if so, a tail that moves like a tree.....interesting, but see no relevance to a dinosaur.

I also come across something that was interesting, about how dinosaurs could have been part of the group of animals that God brought into the world on day 6, and that before the whole sin was introduced that they were all herbivores, which is all well and good, but seeing as there is very little mention about meat eating dinosaurs, I still call bull, as after all, it would be hard not to include the mighty meat eaters such as Tyrannosaur, Velociraptor, or even a little mention of the flyers such as the Pterydactyl. Unless of course they are open to the whole evolution side of things.

I mean even the whole behemoth thing, I read something about it breathing fire, with smoke coming out of its nostrils? So basically a fire breathing dragon, interesting again.

I am an atheist, I don't believe in an all seeing, all powerful person up there looking down on us, allowing kids to be murdered before they live their lives, or allowing kids to have cancer and all sorts of things like that, if however others wish to think there is, and that he is that bloody psycho to allow kids to suffer, then so be it. But the whole thing to me is all about getting people to follow the idea's of another. I mean you see it everywhere, good things happen and its gods will blah blah, something bad happens and its god bless you blah blah bull, why not just call him a knob for letting it happen. I just cannot sit there and believe in that special one. And be fair we all know that Jose is the only special one around here.
