    *Thalidomide

One of the most shameful episodes in history, which led to much stricter regulations on clinical trials and safety.

This just shows how much this government has its eye on the ball: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-49131685

More than £3.5m [a drop in the ocean, but every little helps] intended to alleviate child poverty and homelessness is at risk of being wasted because the government has failed to spend it, says a House of Lords committee. Peers have written to the Home Office saying it is "extraordinary" that the EU funding has not been used.

Ah, but if they had used it, they would have needed to acknowledge that there are people in desperate need of this level of support, as well as acknowledge that the EU does actually give money and doesn’t just take it.

If I remember correctly, when we leave the EU, we stand to lose £500million per annum of funding for helping disabled people move into work.
Our own funding for this has dropped from £750million p.a.to £130m p.a. And it has, of course, been privatised, so it’s anyone’s guess how much of that pot is being siphoned off by the private company.
This is covered in the book I have just finished, Crippled by Frances Ryan.

Neil Kinnock's speech comes to mind again.
I really don't know why the Tories ideologically do this to its own people. It would relatively easy to cater for everyone. Plus anyone who is healthier and wealthier is more economically active - that is, they buy things and make the economy work better.

Not for much longer - he is expected to lose his seat in the next election.

Can't remember where I saw the article, but JRM 's seat is vulnerable. Momentum are currently working really heard to discredit Boris in his own consistency where they are confident that they can force him to lose his seat too. You can find out a lot about the good work Momentum are doing by logging on to their mailing list - reasons to be optimistic.

Boris' seat is Uxbridge, close enough to Heathrow for him to have claimed he would "lie down in front of the bulldozers" to prevent a third runway. His subsequent decision not to turn up to vote on the issue in the HoC will have pissed off plenty of his constituents. Will that be enough to make his seat vulnerable? Not sure.

Labour are actively promoting the candidate for this consistency at the moment and their contention (from the e-mails I receive, at least) is that this seat is nowhere as near as safe as the Tories believe and they are confident of taking it.

The more I think of Mogg´s momento to his department, the more I think he was playing a joke. When he made the annoucement in the HoC, all his colleagues fell about laughing. I think he made the annoucement to generate headlines and wind everyone up.
