Isn’t it strange that people latch on to any possible non positive comment about after Brexit and believe it as if it is a proved fact. Liam Fox has made some silly comments that has I understand bit him in the butt before. If any agreement is reached and we do leave hopefully people will work together to make things work. If they don’t then clearly it won’t..
This particular trope prepares the ground for leave voters not taking responsibility for the upcoming chaos: "If it fails it'll be the fault of evil remainiacs for not trying". It's straight out of the Daily Mail comments section. Vin
I particularly like the Rees-Mogg comment. Brexit should be delivering economic benefits just after my (currently sixth-form) children retire. Their entire working life will be worsened by Brexit, says a man with a mere estimated £100-£150m to tide him over the bad years. Vin
You said it Vin I didn’t.........What ever agreement we get though will depend on people giving it a go that’s for sure. You surely would agree with that? If it doesn’t work no doubt they’ll blame it on anyone they can! Rather than the people that should take the blame whom ever they are........
I don’t see it as latching on to any possible non positive comment about after Brexit. I see it as latching on to non positive comments about after Brexit that are being made by people with inside information as to how things may well pan out. These are MPs for the governing party who are hearing about the potential problems first hand. If those people who have promoted Brexit as being best for the U.K. are now warning the public that maybe it won’t be ok and, in the case of Rees Mogg, saying it may not be ok for up to fifty years, then any sane person (I am not questioning your sanity) should be concerned about the impact this will have, not just on themselves, in the near future, but on their children and grandchildren in the long term. For me, the sensible way forward would be to suspend leaving (retract article 50) until after a suitable agreement has been reached. Personally I would have another vote simply because the first was based on lies and deliberate misinformation.
You are assuming that there will still be a retirement age, in fifty years for your children to look forward to.
Oh dear oh dear........it is true I don’t know what is going to happen after Brexit. But hells bells no one does. All this doom and gloom. The pound responded today based on a rumour that recent negotiations were more positive. Yet all you lot seem to be doing is bleating it’s going to be the end of the world!! Let’s see what they come up with for goodness sake and then make the most of what has been agreed. Do you know you just may be surprised.........
Even the MPs that want brexit secretly admit that the UK will be in for some tough economic times for decades but they think that is a good price to pay to regain the country's sovereignty.
I've no bias in this debate but I do find it astounding how all the leavers seem to hate facts and just proceed with 'It will be alright' based on very little if anything at all. I've also yet to see anyone state a genuine EU law that they have issue with and how it's impacted on their lives. It's clear to see the way it's going though, in that the remainers will be blamed for it not being a success What a mess.
EDIT: I noticed the "single year" title after I wrote this but I will leave what I wrote, with the caveat that it is not as simple as stats as always. Which page have you taken this from? Short term migration? Boston 2.01%? Are you having a laugh? They have got the decimal point in the wrong place. 2011 Census: Country of Birth (C 2011) UK 32,770 (includes children born to non British parents.) Republic of Ireland 106 EU (other) 7,066 Other country 1,398 Total there is 41340. Now I'm not that good at maths (I am) but just eyeballing 7066+1398 (I'm ignoring Ireland) that does not look like 2% of 41340 to me!!! Co-incidence of course but the census figures come to..........wait for it..........20.4%. Hmmm. And you are using this to argue your point? And that is 2011!!! 7 years have passed now, population is now estimated at 44,186. If you want to ignore the country of birth information then we can use passport information. 7888 non British/Irish passport holders in Boston in 2011. Are you going to keep calling leavers ill-informed? I think you need to question the accuracy of the information you are relying on. chose statistics that you wanted to believe demonstrated "the fact" despite them being completely inaccurate. Even less accurate than any "anecdotal evidence" I may supply that people keep dismissing. If I hadn't researched I would've guessed at 20%. The "word on the street" (aka anecdotal evidence) from most "Joe Bloggs" conversations is 1/4............which allowing for 7 years on top of 2011 seems like it will be very accurate to me. definitely more accurate than 2.01%. As a hunch I suspect the information you are looking at is actually for a single year addition to the existing (immigrant+non immigrant) population. Boston "receives" an average just below 2,000 non UK migrants a year, every year. And this would work out around the 2% you are detailing. Of course this plays into the whole "seasonal" narrative assuming people come to work and then go home off season. "Seasonal work" is a favourite buzzword of the politicians, media and farmers which is a complete red herring. Yes the work is seasonal but the work isn't. Crops are grown and processed all year round and harvested at different times and people work for the Co-ops moving between each harvest. Many of the winter "season" is inside poly tunnels. The whole "seasonal" narrative is a fabrication.
Gina Miller was banging on about hedge fund Brexiteers making money out of Brexit the other day.............seemingly forgetting who her husband is and what he does for a living!!! Both sides are still plucking the lowest common denominator out of the air without looking at their own house. Them and us as always. And it won't be the fault of remaniacs that Brexit fails. It will be the fault of Cameron and civil service that refused to plan for each eventuality, followed by a weak government led by a leader that kept flip flopping between both sides (not just within her party) trying to please all with a salespitch to defend a daft Brexit plan drawn up by a few bodies that only she was in contact with. It is the modern way. Both sides repeating what some promininent figures says without checking it. I even had one comment on another site today that we wouldn't be able to trade on WTO if we did not agree a trade deal with the EU because we can't trade on WTO until we agree on the schedules.........because the schedules are EU schedules and thus we are not in the WTO at the moment. Someone has parroted this inane suggestion and so it spreads....ignoring the fact that the UK IS still a member of the WTO and that you can immediately trade on WTO rules while you negotiate agreements. This poster even made the suggestion that the EU could decide to keep the whole schedule and not let us have anything. So the assertion was that the EU can refuse to play ball leaving a country in limbo unable to trade on WTO. Same as Serena and her "men don't get this treatment" so all her fans (or cause followers) repeat it as if it were gospel without ever checking if it is true. i.e. Nadal got code violations from same judge and the worst one they have banging on about is "McEnroe was worse and he never got treated like this." Ignoring the fact he was constantly given code violations, fines and was even chucked out of the Australian Open once!! There were even many that said she is a model pro and doesn't normally react like this.....ignoring the fact that she actually does have a history of reacting like this.
And in other news, the ERG (the people opposing the government within the Tory party) has decided not to publish its alternative plan for Brexit*, so we're back to the position where the "no deal" nutters are saying "we have literally no plan, you'll have to trust us". https://www.ft.com/content/fce2c8ea-b4d7-11e8-bbc3-ccd7de085ffe For heaven's sake. Who can support this utter ****ing madness? Vin *Possibly they were embarrassed by the inclusion of a force to defend the Falklands and a plan for a British "Star Wars/SDI" missile defence system.
Indeed I might Chilcs........Indeed I might. I acknowledge that.........but others do not and that is the problem.
As I've said before Vin T May does seem to be making a big cock up of the negotiations. The Tories and Cameron in particular has a lot to answer for. Firstly calling for the Referendum without any plans. Then resigning when things went against all parties. Therefore putting the Tories in even a weaker position by having to vote in a novice as a leader who then has to draw up plans and negotiate with experienced politicians. Then the first thing she does is call for a general election when the tories in particular, were in the weakest position. That to me was unbelievable....... Your right the whole thing is a nightmare. However the people have voted and decided out. No doubt now things are getting difficult people will change their minds. You still cannot have another referendum just because things have got difficult. The choice was made and we have no choice but to get on with it. Who knows maybe the EU will come up with something at the last minute that can provoke another referendum, but not as it stands at the moment?? You made a statement earlier that people voting for out were based on lies. Yes it seems there was a lot of exaggerations on both sides Vin not just the out side. Certainly from all main parties (don't want to mention Ukip what a bloody shower.) Maybe that is why the people voted the way they did a lot of people have very little trust in what politicians say in situations like this. You cannot surely deny that. As you or someone else said the remain camp didn't have a very good campaign.
