No deficit in my analysis Ides, I'm very aware Boris is a complete ****, but it doesn't stop him "showing" some integrity ans sacking Cummings rather than undermining policy statements by supporting him. Your comment suggested Boris would be damned if he did or didn't sack Cummings, I say he'd get a positive response if he sacks him.

Actually, I think it is fantastic that Boris has backed Cumming. Even the Mail has now turned against Johnson as a consequence. After the massive turnaround in the election, the pandemic is producing the kind of scenario he was facing when his government had a really small majority in November. The whole situation is clearly unravelling again but I think this time ordinary people are fed up with the hypocrisy, the sacrifices that have been made and the fact that people have died as a consequence of the incompetence. The press of all political hues have started to get their teeth in to this government and I fail to agree with the comments that some of them are backing their man. There are some serious questions to ask. We have already had a few u-turns in the recent weeks against government policy which has proved to be highly unpopular insofar that the NHS and care workers are rightly sacrosanct. The press will not ley go with this one until Cummings has gone. The longer Boris takes to pull the trigger, the less credibility he will have. Once he gives in, they will find something else to pull him on. This is a Prime Minister on the ropes and the media is smelling blood. There is potentially a really big story here. It will not be long before Boris will have some explaining to do before the 1922 committee. There is absolutely no way that this bloke is going to get through a whole term as Prime Minister.
Exactly my take on it. And why Starmer didn't immediately jump on the " Sack Cummings" bandwagon but just asked for an explanation, knowing that the only one that was possible was what we heard from Pfeffel yesterday " every parent would have done it, spaff,spaff,spaff". Of course this has only been accepted by a few hard core nutters, I think that we will see a very steep decline in support now. The next problem will be the re-opening of schools. I can see this developing in either two ways. The first is that a teacher or pupil unfortunately dies from Coronavirus . More likely, in my opinion, is that we will start to see local authorities in open rebellion with the national government and we will see the erosion of this government's authority.

St Jabbo I think that Sajid Javid is waiting his time. Lucky for him that he jumped ship when he did but, taking a broader point of view, I can see the Conservatives eventually taking a more centralist position that Cameron sought. I would not be surprised to see Rory Stewart back in the fold at some point. For the time being, I think that things will get much worse for the Tories in the short term. The press have got their teeth in to Boris and I do not believe that they will let go until they have had their blood. There will be a point within the next few weeks where you will see back bench Tories starting to distance themselves from Boris as they sense losing their seats. Without doubt, Starmer is going to get elected with the kind of majority Blair enjoyed in 1997. The one bright hope with Boris is that he is so bad that I think people will be put off voting for the Conservatives for some time afterwards. He has the viciousness of Margaret Thatcher combined with the ability of Norman Wisdom.
The reality of a no-deal Brexit will begin to bite early in 2021, on top of the biggest recession since the South Sea Bubble in 1720. The Tory faithful will remember how their centrist heroes like Ken Clarke and Dominic Grieve were treated. That nice Sir Keir who is always so polite whilst dismantling the bumbling buffoon standing opposite him will seem like a beacon of hope amidst the misery. Biggest Labour landslide ever? Could be, but the only question is how long before the backbenchers bring down the government?
I am convinced that Starmer will not be facing Boris in the next election. The Tories always bring down their own and Boris will be no different although I think this is going to happen much sooner than he thinks.
But he is not half as clever as her nor does he have her stamina and determination (and I couldn't stomach the woman).
