Has anyone got any idea about how many points we should need to stay up ? Just a rough idea so i know what we should be aiming for.
They always say get to 40 and you should be safe, however teams have stayed up with less.I hope we can get to 40 and be safe, but this year i think 38 might just be enough!
obviously one point more than 18th place! i don't think you need 40points to stay up this season because there are some worse teams than us at present i reckon 38 will keep us up comfortably.
We don't want to be needing too many points late in the season. Three of the last four away matches are ManU, ManC, and Chelsea
i would't worry we will come eighth ... silly boys who think we will in a dog fight at the bottom looking forward to the thread will we make Europe and that will be close
Thanks chaps, got something to aim for now.......On last nights performance i can see us being a few points closer after Saturday. See you all tehere
i would have said with the ecclestone team we would had been relegated for sure but now i think we will stay up with a bit to spare
Normally it's reckoned that you need on average 1 point per game to have a good chance of staying up, 38 games = 38 points. But if you assume that we will get no points from the top 6 teams... I know we will get some somewhere but not many.....thats 12 games less just leaving 26 games to get the points needed. That would mean that we need 1 1/2 points per game or 3 points every 2 games against more beatable sides. That's why we need to focus on beating/drawing with those teams below the top 6. Anything from the top 6 is a bonus. On last nights performance I would assume it will be no problem but then suspensions/injuries etc could take their toll. before anyone says that I am being negative, I'm just looking at reasonable possibilities and how important some games against some teams will be more important than others.
I don't think you're being negative at all. By your reckoning we have 22 games left against teams below the top 6; we'd like to get our 38-40 pts in those games so that anything we get from the top 6 encounters is a bonus. We have 4 already, so 34-36 from 22 is winning every second game! Of course draws change the calculation but we can already see that it's no mean feat. That's why dropping points in these early games is a pain but hopefully we can make up for those results later on.
Since the 1995/6 season, when the Premiership was reduced to 20 teams, the best-placed relegated team (that finished 18th-place) in the top flight has had: 30 points: once (2009/10) 33 points: three times (1999/2000, 2003/04, 2004/05) 34 points: three times (2000/01, 2005/06, 2008/09) 36 points: three times (1998/99, 2001/02, 2007/08) 38 points: twice (1995/96, 2006/07) 39 points: once (2010/2011) 40 points: twice (1996/97, 1997/98) 42 points: once (2002/03). Personally I think it will be closer the lower end this year.
