Poch v Mourhino

Discussion in 'Manchester United' started by Hoddle is a god, Apr 1, 2016.

  1. I have a question for United fans - well, a couple, in fact.

Which of these two would you prefer?

Which do you think you will end with?

As regards the second question, and bearing in mind that Levy is already in negotiations with Poch to improve and extend his contract, do you really think that Poch would leave Spurs to join United? At Spurs, he has an immense amount of power, whereas at United he will be in Fergie's shadow, both literally and metaphorically. Arrogance aside, why would Poch want to abandon a project whose success has raised his profile ten-fold to take on one that is, ultimately, going to end in failure? Poch does not come across as a person who is easily swayed by flattery. Also, will he really be able to exert the same degree of control over the United dressing room, with the likes of Rooney, Scholes, Giggs, and other assorted "old" boys breathing down his neck and ready to criticise his every move? Mourhino wouldn't give a flying fcuk about that - he'd be more than happy to take the money and run - whereas I believe that Poch has more principals and dignity than that.

    What do you lads think?

Of course he would. You're perennial losers, as you'll prove once more in the next few weeks.

I didn't read 90% of your drivel but the fact is you lot are a minnows by comparison, if we came calling he'd walk up the M6.

If we don't have Mourinho it's because we're having your manager at the end of next season.

  3. That's a very brave - if not incredibly stupid - analysis, there, Chief. If I might be so bold.

Well, I suppose we will see. If he does end up at United, I will be more than happy to open a thread on this board dedicated to apologising for an entire month.

Of course, if (as appears to be inevitable) he choses to stick with a winning (as opposed to a haplessly losing) side, then I expect you to do the same, on the Spurs board.

Deal? Are you prepared to pin your balls to the mast, on this one, Chief?

It's a long wait but yes, deal.

I should clarify, I never said end of this season. I said end of next IF we don't change manager to Mourinho.

The bloke has ambition, from Spurs to United is an enormous step up he won't resist. In just the same way he left Saints for Spurs.

That's not stupid, to suggest otherwise is stupid.

  5. You arrogantly assume that Spurs will not replicate what we've done this season, and completely trounce United in the Prem. In Poch's mind, Spurs has got to be the better proposition by a long chalk, and I don't see that changing any time soon.

But, I could be proved wrong, and I will stick by the deal if that proves the case.

You could be proved wrong? You're having a decent season, which is very much the exception rather than the rule, and acting like you're suddenly some football super power.

    You're not, not even close.

If anything it is you displaying arrogance by assuming you're something special when at this moment you've won the precise sum of **** all.

I don't want Mourinho as the next United manager but I'd prefer him over Pochettino, who I am impressed by.

Mourinho has managed two big clubs in Inter and Real so would be able to cope with the pressure of being a United manager. Pochettino is still a managerial novice when it comes to expectation and I think the United job would swallow him up at this stage of his career. He wouldn't get patted on the back for finishing second or third to Leicester if he was the United manager!

If Pochettino can hold off Arsenal's challenge for second place this season, steer Spurs through the CL group stages next season and maintain a top 4 position then maybe he becomes a future option for the top job.

    My thoughts exactly.

The fate of AVB, Scolari, Ramos and Christian Gross shows the risks of putting too much on a manager who has only performed at a lower level.

Unless Poch can show himself able to maintain this current level then he may end up as no more than another Moyes - able to get a smaller club punching above its weight, but unable to handle the expectations that come with maintaining a high level of performance every single season. He's already cut and run from Espanyol when they came under pressure, so Utd may be a step to far at this stage. Although tbh Mourinho has wilted under that weight of expectations in the past, so I may have unrealistic expectations in that regard.

Tbh I'm fairly neutral on the two of them at the moment. Mourinho is more likely to hit the ground running, but Poch could either grow into the role and be a longer term success, or it might eat him alive.

You're sounding just like all the Mousers did when they lost Benitez, and spiraled down into mid-table obscurity.

When you've had it your own way for so long (indeed, when you've begun supporting a club only because it has been successful for so long), it must be extremely hard to grasp the concept that, no, in fact, you do not have a divine right to be the "best" every year. Christ! It was a massive blow to your collective ego when £ity became a footballing super-power! God alone knows what damage will be done to your fragile psyche now that you know the likes of Spurs, West Ham and even Leicester can blow you out of the water!

I've started a thread on the general board entitled "The United failure watch!" which we can use to chart the fall of the once mighty United, and plot your travails into mid-table obscurity. I would love for you to post on that, and to give us all an insider's view of how it all unfolds, Chief.

To be fair if anyone sounds like a Mouser it's you HIAG. I don't think anyone has celebrated being second as much since the Dippers finished behind City!

  11. Who's celebrating finishing second? The season isn't over, yet.

Another Blackburn. Enjoy the fun because once the big teams come in and cherry-pick your squad (like they have with Southampton) you will return back to mid-table obscurity once again - but this time you will have the pleasure of listening to Levy explain why the players had to be sold to fund the overspend on the new stadium etc etc etc

The bit you quoted sounds absolutely **** all like anything a scouser would say. I was pointing out the glaringly obvious to you, directly, as Spurs fan that your current season is very much not the norm. You didn't address any of what I said by the way , instead you decided that you would trip put the usual tired cliché that as I support United it must mean that I only support them due to our recent success (United played every game to empty stadiums before the Sky sports era of course) while you are such a worthy fan because you've supported a bunch of utter failures all your life.

The fact I pointed out, which is you won't win this title anyway but will **** yourself into a frenzy having finished third at best, merely highlights exactly where you are in the actual pecking order, which is between ****ing nowhere and irrelevant.

You are Liverpool's peers, not ours.
If you genuinely think that our current position is permanent you're a bigger knobhead than I gave you credit for, which takes some doing fair play.

  15. Chef, when we play you at the Lane, we are going to butcher you, and hand you back in pieces. You do know that, don't you?

I suspect you'll beat us. It will ultimately prove to be a meaningless result for both teams though. I think we're nailed on for 5th or 6th and after your bottle job today and looking at the fixture list I think you're nailed on for 3rd. Would that make it your best season in 50 years?

  17. Oh, come off it, Chief! Please, give me more credit than that ffs! I think you probably started supporting United when they were having success in the 90s. I've always had you down as a longer term plastic than most on this forum (especially Stan).

  18. For the youngest side in the Prem workinig under the best manager in the Prem, I think that would be a fairly decent start.

I'd settle for 3rd, if we are able to consolidate that spot over the next four or give seasons.

Would that make it your most successful season in over 50 years?

  20. I don't know. I don't really care that much for stats, Stan. I live in the moment. History is for Mousers (and you Mancs, over the next few seasons).
