Don't believe this for a moment but there's some twitter talk popping up. @dermotmcorrigan "In other Premier League / Iberia news Mauricio Pochettino has an offer from Benfica [according to generally reliable @jfelixdiaz" @SimonPeach "All quiet at #SaintsFC on this evening's reports of Mauricio Pochettino to Benfica. Will keep digging."
Of course it's quiet at SMS...they never comment on gossip. Don't worry...those eterna watches are actually tracking devices.
My lame-ass Kuwait internet can't get the translation done, but here's the account for the guy who the stuff seems to stem from: https://twitter.com/jfelixdiaz
They were on for the treble a couple of weeks ago, but failed to win anything in the end, so can understand to some degree why Jorge Jesus is under pressure, but surely even getting into that position in the first place is an achievement? Can see the job appealing to Pochettino, though hopefully the job he has now appeals to him as well! "Pochettino tiene una oferta del Benfica." doesn't need much translating to be honest! Simply says "Pochettino has an offer from Benfica."
After all that fuss over Cortese only a couple of weeks ago? He'd have some balls to leave now. Can't and won't happen in my book.
He may have an offer, but he turned down several before he came to Saints. He likes the ambition and vision here. That's the main reason why he uprooted.
He said he planned to take time out until he spoke to Cortese. He is in the PL and is being given backing. Most managers want some time in the PL and he's young enough to spend a few years here and still get a big European job if he wants it.
I got that fella! I wasn't sure if the one after related to the same story or there was anything else. Also was interested to know who this fool is! I'm sure they may have made an offer but Cortese wouldn't release him and Poch wouldn't want to leave right now.
It's a bloody big job offer. Say what you want about Liga Sagres, Benfica is a big club. Great history. Champions League football. Just missed out on the title this year. It's a big job. Pochettino doesn't have much to tie him here, bar what has been said between himself and NC. Hope he will stay.
I think that's the only reason I don't totally blow this off, that it's a massive club. Also the media would ****ING LOOOOOOOOVVVVEE IT if Poch walked out on Nicola Cortese. The story writes itself. Evil Maniac Chairman Betrays Manager, Subsequently Gets ****ed Over. They'd be all over that. ****ing koobs.
He may well have had an offer and i'm sure he would consider it an honour to be approached by a club the size of Benfica. However, he is at the start of an exciting and ambitious project here at Saints - I doubt he'd want to leave just yet.
Also comes down to how Mauricio thinks that his time at SFC has come up to expectations. Is he excited about preseason...hopeful of getting players he wants etc. And also his personal relationship with Nicola. Hope Nicola just says no to any approach. I remember Gordon Strachan being upset that there was only a luke warm attempt to keep him...he said that he only decided to go when told he could talk to others.
