You are speaking much sense Bristol but the flaw in your arguement lies with the playing squad. You have said many times over the season that you think the squad is good enough to go up, so installing a new manager at the expense of funds for new players wouldn't be such a diaster would it?
BSG This was intended to be tongue in cheek but it started to be more and more plausible as I went on and Brian Horton really is the guy for either end of this table. You are dead right about my admiration of the squad but it gets boring going over the same ground again and again and I would have to say that Hessy has done incredibly well to assemble such a squad on a shoestring. i find it difficult to swallow this argument that he has spent a lot of money. Only two players cost a fee (Birchall and Kedwell, one of whom has not kicked a ball) and two have come free on League 1 salaries (Lee and Whelpdale). The rest are bargain basement with the Dimson cripples. Overall a bit more expensive than league 2 average but modest for the top teams.
Bristol, I don't know the size of the budget either transfer or salary and I doubt we will would ever know the full extent. I don't think this squad has been brought in on a shoe string though, I would suggest that Whelpdale, Lee, Frampton and Kedwell are all on above average L2 wages and are all Hessenthaler's signing but I agree the squad probably isn't the most expensive in the league albeit above average. My concern is that we won't be able to invest in the squad to the same level this/next season and the better players, who were no doubt dazzled with tales of promotion, will up sticks in the off season, leaving us in a worse position
I feel that what we are lacking is in the backroom. Firstly Hess needs to get a good number 2, full time defensive coach and a fitness/nutrition person in. No major overall is needed IMHO. Then it's time to look at what we have playing wise and what we need. The whole season Hess has been too far stretched with regards to resources in the backroom. I feel this is the only area that we have been truly "non league" so to speak.
