Just can't see us getting nzogbia now and id prefer a permanent signing of a striker rather than a loan. I think a loan for welbeck could hold wickham back. remember wickham has done more than welbeck had at the start of last season so could well turn out better. No question though that we would be stronger having these two to pick from.

No, N'Zogbia will end up at Villa and Man U have stated today that Welbeck is going nowhere.

Wouldnt mind Zogbia, but still rankles, the only stepping stones quote, and too expensive I fear, as for Danny I live with expectations.

I agree £20m is too.much but he's a damn sight better than Henderson. That deal is setting the tone for this window. Nasri, modric, Downing, Nzogbia all prices I feel being dictated by us taking Liverpool to the cleaners.

I still reckon Wellbeck will be wearing red and white stripes come August and I am hoping so.

    Bikini babes or Sexy vixens?

    I'd take either?

£20m is £10m too much for a lad you could get to sign a pre-contract for nowt in 6 months time. DW lives in total denial of reality. However, if he had 4 years to run, then at £20m, he would probably be right as the lad is a quality player without doubt. If Jordan went for £20m at 20 years old and less than 70 EPL games to his name, then N'Zogbia with over 100 and a fair few goals as well, is worth the same at least.

As for Welbeck, SAF will never let him go permanently and if he shows up well on pre season, he may even make the bench. That will keep both parties happy so I cant see this happening. That said, if things change and Man Utd want Schneider, they are going to need £25m and £160k per week. That may well tempt SAF to take a £12m offer for Welbeck but its going to take a bid of at least that size to tempt him IMO.

Welbeck is a better striker than Sturridge IMO (all round game) and would be a good investment for us and he does link up well with Gyan, with whom he seems to have a really good understanding.

Ian Murtagh usually one of the better journalists as well and he often comes onto the BBC Talk Sport show to do live broadcasts. He is very knowledgeable of NE football as he is from up here originally. I'd take a story form him a whole lot more seriously than any others in the tabloids.

With the signing of Whickham I think any young striker brought into the club should be on a permanent basis to maintain morale and self confidence. What a thought though two of England best up and coming strikers plying their trade with us. Dreams aahh !!!

    I agree Cest.

I wouldn't be upset if we spent £12million on Welbeck and forgot about Zog.

Whickham is left footed and by all accounts, from chatting to Ipswich lads, he played his best football, and scored more goals, playing on the left, he and Welbeck could be fluid and interchangeable in games, giving defenders nightmares to deal with.

N'Zogbia's quality is not, and never has been in doubt, but whether we need him so badly now, is certainly open to debate.

Didn't Wigan quote us £12million for Catts though, and he cost £6million.

They are DESPERATE to sell, Whelan has said he can't afford to keep him, stupidity on his part, and a guarantee that he will go for considerably less.

our budget is pretty limited now, we have spent all the Henderson money plus a bit more. Villa on the other hand have £20 million from Young and another highly likely £20 million for Downing so they can afford to just throw £12 million at Wigan. The last thing we want to do is get in a bidding war with Villa because they will happily pay upto £15 million I would think.

Maybe should have just went for Zog straight away when Villa were in turmoil but were healthy with wingers.

Is it? how do you know? Short just made several billion selling part of one of his other business's which means 20m for a player is a drop in the ocean.

Expect them to spend more due to the financial fair play rules coming that are soon to come in.

We have not finished spending yet.

We will get at least 2 more in, I expect Bruce will try and buy Welbeck but he might have to settle on a loan. The other will be a left sided player, I am not sure if it will be the un-named frenchman or not but stranger things have happened, remember this is all paper talk non of us know the real inside info.

They won't get that much - although they may try to hang Villa out to dry as they will know that they have money from the downing deal - go for it is all I say
