So as we draw to the end of what some will say a very disapointing and frustrating summer of transfer business, let's assess who we hvae brought in and got rid of. Ins: Loach - £150k - Not bad but not sure he is good enough Chambers - FREE - Jury is out and needs to prove himself as a reliable CB N'Daw - LOAN - Will have to wait and see but by all accounts played well for Brum last season Hewitt - £250k - Kid still injured and although maybe one for the future still a massive gamble Taylor- £1.75Million! - Far too much money for my liking when we could have had Maynard for £2M Kouroma - FREE - Will sign tonight again the jury is out on him Murphy - LOAN - At least we know what we will get with him Loungo - LOAN - A decent young player but unfortunately does not last the full 90mins Outs: Paul Jewell for being a complete knobhead Simon Clegg ditto Damien Delonkey - Says it all about him Jimmy Bullard - Money grabbing tosser Lee Bowyer - Too old Jaime Peters - Shame, I liked him and at least he made an effort Ryan Stevenson - Who? Grant Leadbitter - Good riddance So that just about sums it up for another year. As you will notice we have recruited only 1 Centre Back and we have let go of one but as its only Delaney we can say that there's no change! With what we have in the squad it will another boring mediocre season to look forward to! Thanks to all involved! I've been pleased with who we have got in and got rid of over the summer. Infact there are really any players who I can think of currently who I don't think are decent players probably except Ellington and ALB. They're not all going to work out but all have good pedigree and maybe most importanly have something to prove!! Big problem is we don't have enough defenders!!! I'm confident we will get players in before the end of the international break albeit on loan, looks like we are just going to have to make do for tomorrows game!! I admire the fact that the club for holding out for players they want this summer unlike last year but really we should have had more defenders in by now!!!
I'd like to see the club work with the players we have for a while rather than keep having wholesale changes every six months. I think we have a decent 11 and injuries aside i'm sure they should be able to play every game so you don't need to have a big squad...imo.
I agree the trouble is the past couple of season we have needed to add quite considerably to the squad. I'm hopeful (if Jewell is still here) that next summer we will really have a squad to compete and one that we just add one or 2 players to rather than wholesale changes. The hopefully the team will evolve.
