Whoever won out of Solly and JJ would have deserved it. More importantly, congratulations to the entire playing staff. We aren't a side full of superstars, but a good old fashioned team who play for eachother week in, week out. A side we really can be proud of. Also a massive congratulations to Seb Lewis. I'm sure a few on here will have come across him at least once before- his achievement really is remarkable, and I can't say I've ever met someone who loves the club more than him. It's fantastic to see the club reward him.
absolutely great evening. can confirm that waggy will be leaving. he said that they had not offered him anything as of yet and he's devastated. think i wrote somewhere that he's been with us 8 years. was wrong, he's been with us since he's been 8. did say he had a few offers though and he'd go get games. personally, i hope they turn round and offer him something. i asked dale if he was injured lately. he said "not for the last 3-4 weeks" and that he didnt understand why he'd been dropped. i said he'll be back in the team next season if he stays and he said "i cant promise anything, you never know what'll happen". chris powells off on his uefa A in spaind over the holidays and will meet the team out there (not lepe) for pre season. poor guy wont get much of a break - should be commended for his workrate, he absolutely loves the job. the youngsters do us proud - michael smith and nick pope were genuinely really nice
Never been one of Waggy's greatest supporters SIG but if he's devastated by this news, I think that's reason enough to extend him for a year and see if he can rise to the full potential we all hoped he would. If the coaching staff assess that his highest potential level has already been reached, it's only right and proper he should seek new challenges and regular football elsewhere. Good to hear about the youngsters, so many get above themselves when they reach this level. As for Stevens, I think he's being a little disingenuous here or perhaps he's simply being discreet. Apart from the fact that he's really done stuff all on the park since his transfer to Villa broke down, he must know that the interest is still there and that the transfer is still on, providing that Villa aren't relegated, at which point all bets will be off. The fact is, we've done very well without him and even though to lose a player of his undoubted but inconsistent talents would be a blow, IMO it definitely wouldn't be a disaster.
I'm disappointed to lose Waggy - our club is built on players like him who would run through brick walls for Charlton. More importantly, I think he has the ability to make a decent contribution to the squad next season, and has a knack for scoring goals. I wish him all the best for the future.
Not his biggest fan but he deserves another year. He is still young enough to improve and it is not as if that OR spot has been sewn up by another player. Pritchard, Green, Wilson and Waggy are all much of a muchness. All good players, but none of them quite good enough to be automatic picks at RM. And we don't have a good youngster in that position on the horizon either. Now if CP has a new signing lined up for RM, that is different, but I think that is just wishful thinking. But if Bradford City get promoted and sign Waggy, I think he will be happy there and do well.
poor. your forgetting that they are people too. Charlton is all he knows. plus, he aint that bad - his goals to starts ratio is up there and considering he's always played out of position he aint done bad.
Your use of the word "poor" suggests you think GMR was being ironic. On the contrary, she really is grief stricken. She is Waggy's mum. (Whether birth or spiritual mother we have not ascertained yet).
I've never thought Waggy would make it as a winger, left or right. And he's never impressed as a striker either. I think if he was played as an attacking mid he might well make a fist of it. He may not have tha acceleration to beat defenders for pace but he works like a trojan, usually plays the simple ball and has a good eye for goal, yet to my knowledge he has never played in this position.
I am very surprised to read that. I realise acceleration is different from speed over 20 yards, but I thought Waggy had both. Plus a good workrate and eye for goal. Poor chooser of options and poor crosser but maybe a different coach and manager could improve him in those areas. He certainly seems willing to learn and not as if he knows it all already like some we have had here on loan. That is why, although I am sorry to see such a good clubman leave, I think it might be in his best interest. We have done wonders bringing on some players but I think we have let Waggy down somewhat. What do other posters think about his acceleration?
I admit that he has some raw/natural skills (acceleration and finishing for example) but he just doesn't have the brain for this level of football. He's limited.
I think I agree with Bill, his initial acceleration is very quick but as soon as a defender slows him he does struggle to regain it. It was an early criticsm for Cristiano Ronaldo too, SAF had to tell him not to stop once in full swing. Though please don't mistake me in thinking I'd ever compare the two.
It would be a disaster to see Scott go, great player who came back into the side and helped turn results around - with a great attitude. I hope you persuaded him he's wanted and the Club they should keep hold of him.
