Apologies if I missed something, but I was expecting the Player of Season to be awarded at yesterdays game. Anybody know why it wasn't announced and when it will be?
According to my boss (who is not always reliable), it was awarded yesterday in the Gunn club to Snoddy. I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere though
I think it wasn't annnounced on the off chance that we had not got a result and that announcing the player of the season to the backdrop of us possibly becoming favourites for the drop would not have created the sort of atmosphere the club wanted. It is a pity that there was not a quick change of mind as it would have been a brilliant atmosphere. I hope Snoddy does get it and would be surprised if he didn't.
Sometimes this is where democracy fails, mind you Snodgrass isn't a controversial choice as his been brilliant this season, but I'd rather it of been Turner or Bassong.
The crowd were great(even if those f***ing clappers drive me mad),and the POS should have been presented BEFORE the game,as we have done in previous years. The atmosphere would have been great for the winner (Bradders was my vote) and added to the build up prior to the game. Sometimes our Club does shoot itself in the foot with the lack of respect for the fans.
Dunno - under the pressurised circumstances it was probably right not to do it before the game. Shame it couldn't have been announced at the end of the game and presented when the players came out for their walk of honour. The walk of honour was great though - nice to see Tetts give a fan his shirt and a Norwegian flag and Pilks kids were having a whale of a time running around on the pitch. Great day yesterday.
ICHB said that he thought it would be presented at the re-arranged end of season dinner (though don't quote him on that) which makes sense to me.
In the pre-match build-up, Chris Goreham said that it had been psotponed because it might be a distraction before such an important game. Good decision, IMO. My choice would be Snods, followed by Bassong and then Johnson.
Because of it's incredible importance McNally wanted complete focus on the game with no distractions, this was his decision I'm led to believe. It worked, job done
Even the walk round the pitch was hastily arranged. Have we the fans NOT done enough this season to be recognised properly? We keep being told to get behind the team, which we do every week anyway, so a small proper acknowledgement of that wouldn't have gone amiss! Why do the players have to parade with their kids? What's the point in that?
Agree 100% ILD. It always seems to be about the Players/family etc and stuff the loyal supporters. It would have taken 10 mins to re-arrange the presentation after the game. FFS don't we deserve a bit of payback by the club?
Personally think that they should have made the presentation after the game. An opportunity missed. I have no issue with the players taking their kids round after the game. It must be fantastic to be able to share that experience with your children your team mates and their children celebrating in front of the Barclay.
Yarco, ILD, the decision was made before the game to cancel the presentation, for the same reason the end of season dinner was cancelled. To allow the players to focus purely on the game. It was in no way a 'stuff the loyal supporters' gesture or a failure to acknowledge the support of the fans at all, it was designed to make sure the players only had the game to focus on a get the result we needed and it worked. If they'd gone ahead with the presentation and then lost the game, people would be complaining that it was an unnecessary distraction that could have waited until after the the season was over and we were definitely safe/relegated.
The decision to postpone made perfect sense, but not holding it after the game, once we knew we were safe, seems a bit daft. Not like there was no one to present it. Perhaps it was something to do with time constraints on policing/stewarding etc?
When did you here this Dazz? No one where I sit were aware it had been cancelled. When will it now be held/announced?
As riverendrick said, it was in the build up in radio Norfolk so anyone at the ground missed it. We just assumed that was the reason.
I voted Johnson too, but I imagine it will go to Snodgrass. Bassong will definitely be in the mix. Struggling to think of another player who could be considered (Turner maybe, but he had a shaky start and some injuries)
Christ, I've been accused of being miserable but that wipes the floor with me. You're a grown man and you'd deny some children of the players the chance to enjoy the experience. What on earth does the difference make to you whether their kids are on the pitch?
