Bruce with 5 subs is a frightening thought.... I like managers that at times don't change things... Bruce seems to want the credit for subs, so he plays his hand every match regardless of whether we're looking ok at the time... I think he got it right vs West Brom, but I can't recall a othe time his subs have worked??? Makes me put him down as a chancer with his subs.... Im sure he knows more than me though...

Putting subs on is always taking a chance in a team like ours that doesn't have much depth. If its a fast paced game it takes them a while to get up to pace. If they are not like-for-like the change in shape can throw the whole team out. The teams with bigger squads have options to hold back good players who give them different options.

If I was a Manager and we were winning I would only put a sub on if players were clearly knackered. If we were losing I would be a bit more bold and take off a defender and throw on a forward.

The managers who are holding out against the 5 subs are quite right - its a unfair advantage for the better quality squads.

Think with a concussion sub they have to have a hard and fast rule that if a player takes a heavy head knock he has to come off and you can use an extra sub. Its impossible to tell if someone has concussion immediately.

Its this grey area they will work in I reckon. If there is a break in play, will they not just say "look I want to sub you, we've used all the subs, just jump with someone for the ball and go down holding your head". I don't think anyone is daft enough to think they wouldn't, you only have to look at bloodgate in the rugby, they'll use anything to get a leg up.

I'm not doing down the seriousness of concussion, but ****ing hell we've got this far without too many problems! I just think life is becoming too namby pamby with all these health and safety rules. We worry about all sorts of **** now. The missus was on about the little one, her mobile phone for coming home and why she feels the need to pick her up. Let the little fecker walk! I thought I walked home from school my whole formative years on my tod or with mates. None of us had a mobile. In the summer my mother would kick me out at 8:30 with £2 for my dinner, and say "I don't want to see you until at least 5pm". I was jumping off dams and swinging on tarzas 30ft up playing sticky picky. We seem to have a problem accepting risk now.

Are you sure that was real and not the Monty Python’s Three Yorkshireman sketch.

First highlighted. That's perfectly understandable. :)

Second highlighted. That's because you're not thirteen any more. Grow up. <doh>

    They'll take the piss.

They do it now. Defending a corner, look out for an attacking player going down holding his head in an attempt to stop the defending team from breaking quickly.

    Bunch of cheating ****s.

To be honest I'm still accepting the risk, it just hurts a bit more now. I've only just got over hitting a tree in the dark in my local woods on my mountain bike. That ****ing river was cold <laugh> Essentially I still thought I was 21 and was hurtling along way too quick. The lads said I disappeared off racing along, and all they heard was "fuuuuuuuucckk" as I hit a descent and realised I was going too fast. Chipped my elbow too, but I managed to ride home, albeit somewhat gingerly. It was only a couple of metres I fell into the river fortunately.

I blame nature. Why did that ****ing tree have to grow out over a downhill section. Selfish ****.

I used to set traps for mountain bikers... Me and my mate used to sharpen sticks and angle them nicely just waiting for a rider to come off a jump for example... We'd set several then just go home...

They wouldn’t do it if it meant that person holding his head HAS to go off immediately and not come back on.

Well the lad I did it with used to string up birds and we'd fire a catapult at them.. I sacked a crow with a bat and stamped on it once, but nothing too major..

Funnily enough in 1st school we were told to bring in a project to build over a, few weeks and most the class arrived with lego or some **** like that, but my pal brought in the skeleton of his dead cat <laugh>

For the me 5 subs thing is a load of crap. The bigger clubs have the better squads so they should rotate them more. They have the luxury of having more good players.

Interestingly they say they want 5 subs but on average they don’t use the 3 they currently have.

The top clubs just want to bend the rules to fit their own agenda.

The thing is nobody thought **** of it. I expect the teacher did, but it wasn't until a good few years later the class mates probably thought.. Hang on a second..... We were like 7

That all read as if you were expecting someone on here to say "Are you okay, Pouchy?"

I'm betting at least half of the people reading this are on the floor now laughing that you chipped your elbow. Not me mind, I'm more caring. Okay, so I was. <laugh>

Fully agree with sticking at 3 subs per team, it's worked for donkeys years and yes its a shorter campaign but just means you need to use your 22/23 man better.

Head injury subs have been far to long in coming in if we are serious about players health and safety but equally need to protect against cheating and I'd suggest a 7 day ban if you come off with a head injury as a concussion sub - this protects the player and also prevents people going down feigning injury.
