Paralympic Gold Medallist Oscar Pistorius' has been detained by Police in South Africa for fatally shooting his girlfriend.

He claims it was an accident and he thought she was an intruder, as she was surprising him for Valentine's day.
If he uses that story in court, I honestly dont think he will have a leg to stand on! LOL :emoticon-0102-bigsm

In his defence Pistorius was legless at the time.

I like the guy and even if his story is true, the fact he obviously shot first and asked questions later means he should go away for a long time.

Also for a guy whose main income must be from sponsership, he's royally ****ed anyway you look at it.

His life story would make one hell of a movie though.

Aye I seen!
He seriously thought he would get away with saying he thought she was a burglar, come on man.
For her to have startled him and THEN get shot TWICE (once in the shoulder, once in the head), he would have had to have been sat there with the gun loaded, safety off, in his hand. Kinda reminds me of Family Guy:

Not at all suprised if he's guilty. The explanation just sounds so invented; much like those stupid horrible ****s who set fire to their house killing their 6 children.

The world we live in.

Have any of you ever been to South Africa? I have and if you don't shoot first they will. It may well be the truth so lets all assume innocence until proven guilty shall we? Sad thing is though is that had it been a black that was robbing the house whom he had shot dead no one would give a **** and you probably wouldn't have hear about this.

Sorry not buying that. From what I heard on the radio, he lives in accomodation that has patroling guards. Should be no need to have a gun that close at hand that you get at least 2 shots off before you even realise it's your own girlfriend you've shot.

If he's that paranoid then I can't imagine she's going to be sneaking up on him in the night.

Anyway, as above, even if it's an accident, the shoot first ask later attitude means he should go down for it regardless. Shame as this aside the guy is a fricking legend.

Also, I unless it was in total darkness, I doubt that there is a spate of burglaries in South Africa being carried out by 5 ft 5" Blonde, White, models.
Not to be racist, but in South Africa, if you are being burgled, chances are you are going to be facing a 6 foot + fellow of the black persuasion.

On a side note, he should be reprimanded purely for taking this woman out of the world, she was stunning!!!

Apparently there were several previous “allegations of a domestic nature” so not much chance of it being a mistake

There is a precedent...read the following story (involves father shooting at what he thought was a thief stealing his car, only to find out upon opening the side door that it was his daughter, dead. He was acquitted on all charges on the account that - ""There's no doubt that Visagie's culpability in the matter can be argued successfully in court, but we believe that justice wouldn't ultimately be served. He has been through traumatic circumstances, and his pain would only have been aggravated by his part in her death. We feel he has learned a hard lesson and the courts cannot achieve more than that")
http://www.iol.co.za/news/south-africa/visagie-can-find-some-peace-at-last-1.219358#.UR0zYGed6So

Terrible story and such a tragedy, but before you all crack such moronic jokes, think yourselves lucky that you don't live in SA. These incidents are commonplace!

The worst of the lot, mind you was David Rattray's murder - senseless! http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2007/jan/28/southafrica.travel

BUT....Tina Turner.....the precedent is working along the lines of the fact that he DID in fact mistake his daughter for a thief and was saddened by her death.
Where as everything I have seen from this case seems to imply that he wanted to kill his girlfriend, therefore is NOT feeling "pain and is aggravated by his part in her death" and should therefore go to prison.

Not condemning the man because I dont know for sure, but it certainly looks like he intended to murder her.

3am = darkness

Secondly, that's often the case sadly, but the "shoot first, ask questions later" is now extremely common given the recent history in SA...it's a different world that us Brits would never understand - such a wealth divide (and thus serious temptation for thieves), even now, between those with everything (whites) and those without (most of the "indigineous population" - less offensive term). The very fact that many live in gated and guarded compounds is testament to that!

IMO a tragic accident and even more unfortunate for Paralympic sport, for whom he was such a great icon and trailblazer in establishing disabled sports in the mainstream media and thus increasing their global exposure and appeal.
