He was just being honest, he's not seen that much of him but what he has seen of him he hasn't looked anything special. As much as De Gea has toughened up and cut out some of his errors, I think Mignolet has had a better season. It's not abberation though, much like selecting Hazard or Rio I might not have picked them but they've still had great seasons. Rafael in for Zabaleta though, I'm not so sure about Zabaleta this season he's been good but not great whilst Rafael has come along really well. Rafael not even getting nominated for young player of the year was a real surprse, especially when Welbeck got in!
I'm the first to say De Gea is far from the finished article. However even putting aside this season, for a good part of last, De Gea showed great mental strength to put aside the criticism and pulled off some great saves showing us all what potential he has. This season around he has been even more impressive and deserves at the very least serious consideration for inclusion into the PFA team of the year. He has been more impressive than Hart and at equal with Mignolet and Cech but edges it imo due to the pressure and scrutiny he has faced.
Congratulations and well deserved for Bale, he has played amazingly for you and to get goals of the quality he has from a non striker position gives him the edge imo. Also to me if you qualify for both age categories and win the player of the year it makes sense that you would also get the young player because if players thought you were the best overall why would they think someone younger is better.
PFA 2nd XI? Mignolet; Rafael, Cahill, Nastasic, Evra; Toure, Gerrard; Cazorla, Fellaini, Michu; Lukaku
I think the theory is that that team would be the best bet to play another equally good team. So with that in mind despite City having a tight defence etc I would still have De Gea over Hart who has been shaky this year.
Cahill?! Also, Lukaku over Benteke? Not for me. Considering those that are already picked in the real first 11, I'd have: Mignolet; Rafael, Williams, Jagielka, Evra; Lennon, Fellaini, Toure, Cazorla; Benteke, Lambert/Tevez/Michu/Lukkaku/DefinitelyNotAde
I would love to have Lukaku at Spurs. I think he's going to be something special in a couple years. Why The Chavs won't give him his chance, I don't know.
Jagielka is a good shout, to be fair. Jonny Evans has also been consistently solid when he's played. Vidic has been exceptional, but hasn't played too often.
Welldone to Bale on winning the POTY, just hope your lot can keep him as don't want to lose him to another league, or even worse City killing his talent. Once again what a talent he is!
Bale is worth that sort of money because, for one reason, he is a game changing player. How many times has he conjured a goal out of almost nothing this season? Very few players would even think of attempting some of the things he does, let alone have the skill and pace to pull them off.
The media don't get everything right you know, far from it Neither of them would get near our starting XI based on current performances.
