I remember his talking about Suarez reputation preceding him, but that's a world away from a "campaign amongst referees not to give Suarez decisions" <laugh>

Can't see how they could say this openly, regardless of whether they're actually doing it. It would be tantamount to admitting that they're cheats themselves.
A ref is obliged to call every decision as he sees it at the time, regardless of the reputation of players involved. Of course we all know they're influenced by their personal prejudices, but can't see them admitting it.

Well he said he had been told by his former colleagues that they had decided to not give Suarez nailed on free kicks/pens because they felt he was constantly trying to dupe them.

Then Huth, Carrow Rd etc etc happens.

Are you saying that ref's are squeaky clean and beyond conspiring against certain players?

Poll and Gallagher etc have retired now and don't mind letting a few stories and opinions go against the grain(moreso Poll)and we all know the pro referee society is more cloak and dagger than the masons.

What he actually said on the subject was this;

"The fact that it was Suarez again can only leave the impression that it is his reputation as a player who goes down too easily that is affecting referees’ decision making.
What is clear is that Liverpool’s opponents are pressurising referees by their strong reactions whenever Suarez goes down. This time, the Norwich players immediately indicated that there was no foul and appeared to claim that the Uruguayan had dived.

It’s not surprising this situation has occurred. Suarez has been cautioned three times for simulation, twice last season and once this, making him the most cautioned player for that offence. Last season, Sir Alex Ferguson accused him of diving ‘all over the place’.

Referees hate being duped and would rather miss a ‘soft’ penalty than give one when a player has dived.

I always tried to clear my mind of any previous incidents but, when refereeing a player such as Cristiano Ronaldo in his early days at Manchester United, I would be more likely to wave aside appeals from him than I would if Roy Keane went to ground.

It is human nature and Rodgers needs to accept that it will take more than a plea from him to change Suarez’s reputation.

Referees need to see a change in attitude and approach before they give anything other than the most obvious penalties for fouls on him."

Which is the obvious truth tbf & a world away from your suggested "campaign" mate. <laugh>

Maybe refs should book players who say a player has dived when it was obviously a foul.

Oh, I agree with you that they're at it all the time. I just think that if they openly admitted it as a policy then clubs and players would be able to bring charges of corruption against them.

Isn't there like 5 other teams who haven't had a penalty in the premier league yet? we've only had one ourselves.

Ffs boots i could have posted that link to the Daily Fail when you asked me who said it.<laugh>, but as i said the interview was on SSN.

You're naive to think referees don't decide issues as a group at their meetings, Suarez(amongst others)being one of them.

Further proof (as if we needed it ) of the influence Fergie has on refs.
And before the " conspiracy theory" accusations start flying, I'm not and never have been , accusing refs of being in collusion with him, simply that far too much notice is taken of what he says.

couldn't agree more,

not that it will ever be admitted, but i should imagine this is true, that managers have told their players to over react if Suarez goes down and make out he is cheating, although doesnt help that he goes down easier than he should, when truth is its them cheating, also wasn't it Nolan who tried to argue with the ref with the Sterling challenge, that sort of thing is becoming more common as well sadly, should have been a red and having the nerve to argue as well! getting fed up of this FA crap of hiding behind the "well the ref saw it and dealt with it, so we cant act" crap, he doesnt have ruddy slow mos, he has real time and yes mistakes happen, but WHY can the player not still be punished if they have got away with something reckless, do we need a serious injury or something before anything is done.

Oh go 'way lad <laugh>

As if the refs meet up & decide on a "campaign" against Suarez, as part of their meeting.

What Poll said in the piece I posted is correct, Suarez was suffering because of his reputation, as refs were not giving him the benefit of the doubt & given that he'd shown himself to be a diving snide, who can blame them? it hardly amounts to a conspirraaacccceeeeeee though mate.

I remember Wenger labelling Andrew Johnson (remember him? ;) ) a diver & for months afterwards he got nothing, but it amounted to nothing more than human nature, rather than a meeting with funny handshakes & an agenda that has to be eaten after reading <laugh>

Not sure mate, Moyes sent a video of numerous incidents of Johnson being fould & getting sod all to the FA & it all happened in the wake of Wenger calling him a diver on the Eve of a game against us.
