To be fair to Hughes this will be the best squad he will have had to work with apart from Man City. He did get Stoke to 9th so I'm more than willing to give him a chance. I also quite like the bloke from what I've seen in interviews.

Of course I'm happy to give him a chance, and he started well at Stoke. I just dislike the manager merry-go round of Allardyce, Hughes, Pulis, Pardew etc. I think they're in that position because they serve a purpose, but they're not very good.

Not too sure on the best squad bit as some of the Stoke teams he has had would run us pretty close to our current crop, and the Fulham team he had wasn't that bad either. The Blackburn team before City wasn't exactly dreadful and even the QPR one had a lot of talented players in.

I am willing to give him a chance and the more I have read about his time at Stoke it sounds like the board didn't back him with players he wanted to implement his style....oh ****

I think Hughes is considerably better than the other 3 you have mentioned to be honest. He gets his teams to play better football and he has a better track record.

We've done this a million times, and it's the same list of people who I've provided previously. I don't want to have to do it again.

Perhaps so, but for me it's just another sign that we've settled on being average, and as long as Les gets his fat paycheck, that's fine. I'd like us to strive to be better. Continually.

Good post, however the vision of 'the board sitting on its hands with its head in the sands' would be worth seeing if that physical position was possible! Seriously I know what you're saying and think it's very true.

Ok that's true, I just don't think any of them were ever realistically available. I can't think of someone I would like less than Hughes, and he's not going to be interested in an 8 game contract. Paul Clement has PL experience, he's pretty much the only name so far I would be happy with.

Silva was. Martino I would suggest definitely could be. Those would be by far my first two choices right now (and Martino would be top of that list).

We just seem to have lost any sense of progression, and are happy just sitting hoping not to get relegated whilst the bosses line their pockets. It's depressing.

Providing we stay up, I think we need a bit of stability and to reevaluate our stature/expectations. I personally thought Silva short term would be good for survival hopes but bad long term as he'd look to move on quickly, and Hughes might be better long term for stability, so lets hope he can keep us up.

We've seen how our fans have developed an attitude where they think we have a divine right to be top 8 and pushing for Europe but that's a tough place to stay - everyone wants to be there. We got promoted and had a season to stay up then were pushing straight to Europe and our expectations rose far too much. I think we've forgotten that historically we aren't a top 10 side and need to deal with that fact unless/until we get major investment.

I think Hughes could be a good appointment in keeping us as a top 10 side while we slowly grow and grow. Maybe this is the start of another five year plan <laugh>

Welcome to the Premier League. For 14 clubs the only goal at the start of the season is to stay up, anything else is a bonus. Admittedly we do it on a cheaper scale than the likes of West Ham and Everton, but we are all in the same boat.

I don't think Silva would necessarily bugger off if we showed any semblance of ambition.

Guy has got too powerful and brings in a lot of people that are friends just so he gets more power. Add that to the dodgy son is a agent stuff.

Then him not doing anything about bullying in the academy by a staff member to youth players that ended up a few leaving.

Then add that to him making mistakes on the last managers and him also not backing managers with players, it is time for him to go.

To think he still deserves a chance or the good outweighs the bad is being naive sadly.

But, you didn't like Cortese either did you? So, my question would be, what colour fluffy bunny would you have doing the job?

Takes a sort to do some jobs, and with a new owner I think a lot of you lot should be careful of what you wish. Why not see how the next eight games go before stringing him up, after all, what's his incentive if the pitch forks are waiting whatever the outcome? He's pulled the trigger, like we all wanted, lets see what he can do now.

Or you know replace him with a guy that isn't Reed or Cortese? There are plenty of people out there. I think it's weird how people try and defend a person who has done **** all about bullying of youth
