Fran we have to remember there was quite a few known clashes between Cortese and Reed during their time together. All though in truth you cannot deny the success the pair had. IMO since he has had to make most of the footballing decisions himself his successes ratio has dropped considerably. Personally I think we are badly in need of a replacement......for what its worth.
He’s more than just a member of the board Fran, he’s the Vice-Chairman of Football (the other VC being Martin Semmens in charge of Business). That makes him the place where the football buck stops, so every football related decision made in the last few years, from the Academy to the first team manager is solely down to Leslie Reed.
Agree with Chilc's, Beddy & LTL above 100%. LR may have been a good foil with Cortese but he's been pretty crap since taking "full control". Yes, some good things but in general, very poor.
Added to which he’s made the club his personal fiefdom, has a number of cronies involved, including people like Martin Hunter, who succeeds in drivin young talent away from the club with his archaic, bullying methods. He has his son very dubiously employed as a ‘preferred’ agent (he’s an ex recruitment consultant) - amongst other things that many would feel uncomfortable with. Sooner he and his cronies are gone, the better. Ask Jason Dodd and Paul Williams what they think...
The Mirror claims we are seeking a permanent replacement rather than an interim manager, to see out the season. If this is the case, do we go with:- A manager with no Premier League experience, but who has done time in the Championship, and who would be a good bet to bring us back up, should we go down? A manager with proven Premier League experience, but none at Championship level? (Rafa did ok with Newcastle). Another unknown quantity with zero experience in England?
My concern with Hughes is that he manages to keep us up by the skin of our teeth, then we find ourselves in precisely the same position this time next season.
Yeah I think it should be a contract til the end of the season and then review. But if he keeps us up I can't think of any other time in the PL when a manager has left after keeping a team up in these kind of circumstances, so if he does come in the only way he goes in the summer is if we go down I think.
Just smacks of having no real progressive vision. Though I don’t know why I’m surprised. The choices would have been far greater had they acted at the point they should have, but we’ve turned into a penny pinching bunch of self regarding fools at the top of the club.
We've broken a few unwanted records this season, what's one more? Also, look at how we dealt with Pearson after he kept us in the Championship.
Haha, sorry, I’m just really angry at people who are paid hundreds of thousands of pounds a year making such a pig’s ear of a promising club (that I love), mainly for their own gain. It makes me mad.
Well that is not comparable at all. It was a completely different leadership team and we were skint so couldn't afford Pearson. The main risk I can see is we turn into a Sunderland where we hire someone to save us, give him the job permanently only to can him in Jan/Feb the following season and repeat. But as the board have sat on their hands with the heads in the sand for so long we have only 1 choice of type of manager to come in now, it is just whether they have the balls to fire that type of manager even if he keeps us up and try and find a progressive manager like they have attempted to in the past.
