Wigan have just appointed Gary Caldwell who has now retired from playing. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32216865
To be fair, he was there just a few days, and not as manager. He gets to do the job he wants to do and with a football league team in or near his chosen part of the country. No brainer really.
Memorable win under Sturrock at Eastlands also, where we outplayed Man City 3-1. 2 goals by Kevin Phillips, one of them superb, and a bullet header from Beatts from a Pahars cross. Super result: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/3615833.stm Look out for Daniel Prutton.
I agree , but unless I am missing something , no mention of his time here -http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32233398
Does anyone have Youtube evidence of that game? In my brain the Beattie headed that in from about 25 yards, but I'm sure that can't be true.
Nah, shame that it isn't on Youtube anymore. Believe me, I've looked. I do have the highlights on an old HDD somewhere, along with quite a few other match highlights during the years between 2001 and 2005. You may find the Kevin Phillips goal where the ball was cleared out of defence by Paul Telfer and raced onto by Kevin. Great goal that. You'll need to search fairly hard though because it's buried within a compilation somewhere. Must get my old collection of Saints highlights back onto Youtube. PS. Beatts header isn't from 25 yards, but he starts running from somewhere around the halfway line while Marian is at full speed down the left wing. Pahars gets to the byline and hits a really hard cross which Beatts throws hiimself at from just inside the area. The ball goes into the net like a bullet. Beatts blows his cheeks out because he's covered something like 40 yards in just a few seconds. That's all I can remember. Must find it. There wasn't a poor Saints goal scored that day.
