Long term i guess you're right we have our next two CB's for 10+yrs already in place, i just thought his ability would be a little wasted as he's just as good at bursting forward. One thing i think we can agree on is the lad can be world class if he has the right attitude.
Which would you prefer, Welbeck, hernandez etc with rooney in midfield Or your poor midfield with rooney upfront with little service? Or play Nani in the middle with say carrick and fletcher behind him, rooney up front, young and valencia on the wings
I think the best bet is actually to push Rooney back and buy the striker and defensive midfielder. We have holding midfielders, we do have other strikers but three of them are currently injured of course, but we don't have any creation at all in the CM department. None. And please, no one mention Anderson because he's not good enough. I'd also like Jones to remain a CH and make the partnership with Smalling, neither is a genuine right back and while I think Jones could definitely make career at CM I think he will be a superb sweeper style centre half. The formation I mentioned in the post above for now then a couple of class new buys. We have to adapt.
Anderson!!!! Cleverly is a decent option, or at least I think he is. I can't remember seeing him play its been so long. Personally I think Rooney should play in the hole behind Hernandez/Welbeck. We need a strong DM, like Carrick played today, and a decent box to box. Similar to how Jones played today. With Nani and Rooney on the pitch we have a lot of creativity, and with a box to box who can get up the pitch and help knock the ball around, something Cleverly is good at, we'll create loads of chances. I really like watching Jones play CM, one minute he's clearing the lines on a cross, 10 seconds later he's surging into the box to got on to the end of a cross.
Cleverly is one for the future, there is no doubt about that and our flying start to this season and him being in the side at the time is not a coincidence. I also like Carrick, I think he is very good in a specific role but he, like Cleverly, is not defensive. In fact he is a poor tackler, which is essential in that position. We need a good, clean tackling CM to go with both those players and Rooney, whichever role he eventually ends up playing in. I agree, Jones could be an excellent box to box CM but he will, I think, become a truly superb centre half and they are a rare commodity and should be protected. Unless there becomes no option I would like him to become the top drawer centre half he so clearly should become.
