    Is that you Nohlman?

I do agree that Scholes is missed and a shame Fergie never got a suitable replacement when he retired.

Just had to make an account to say paul scholes puts every one of our CM to shame. Watching the video just shows how one dimensional we have become, everything just goes through the wings now and teams know how to defend against us.

Hopefully he can show the youngsters how football is supposed to be played, good luck in your new job Paul and all the best, you are sorely missed!

Agree with Ninja. Scholes was a unsung hero. His shyness gave him less exposure then Beckham but was just as good in my opinion. I am seriously worried by the quality of players coming through. Gibson. ****!!!!!!!!

We don't miss the Scholes that played last season IMO, we miss the Scholes of his prime. Granted on his day he can still make some outrageous passes, but he was rather inconsistent.

even last season nearly all of his passing was just superb.. we just need another midfielder who can spray the ball around consistently like Scholes.. Rooney can but he's a striker, we need a midfielder who does that too.

Ditto Roy Keane, who is an even bigger miss.

His passing was good, but his fitness levels were poor, and he was lackluster in multiple games. We've been missing the Roy Keane type player in the midfield, more so than the a Paul Scholes.

    This.

With the current midfield squad, we lack somebody who can grab the game by the balls like a Keane, a Robson and an Ince.
Carrick is the best passer in the team, but sits too deep to be really creative and he needs help commanding the middle of the pitch.

I've said it before, Rooney should be a midfielder, he's not consistent enough to really be a striker, and would benifit him and united more in midfield, he likes to run around and dictate the game, he can freely do that in midfield.

and it would stop him getting pissed off at others being ****, because he'd be the one doing it

I would go along with this but it transfers the problem really. Move him to midfield and we need to buy a top class striker.
He would also need a more defensive minded CM to work with.

A possible 4-3-3 of Carrick Rooney Fletcher in the middle of the park with Young Berbatov (or other CF) Nani as the forward three looks solid with plenty of flair. And would see us through this season.

We'd ultimately need a top drawer defensive CM though.

Great player for United. Can't think of a close like for like at all. There are a few players that can do some of what he did, but none that can do all he did nor as consistently.

Just get out te chequebook and sign Xavi, that will sort it out for ye.

I think that 433 would ultimately just morph back into a 442 with Rooney playing as a second striker as he tries to get forward and help out more. Which is effectively what we play at the moment whenever Rooney is playing off Hernandez / Welbeck.

Wonder if we'll go in for De Rossi in Jan - he seems to want out of Roma, and having played in and been eliminated from Europe the whole not in the CL thing won't matter at all this season.

I agree that with age Scholes became less effective, i still believe we l miss his technical ability and his vision in the middle of the park.
For those saying we need a Roy Keane type of player; Phil Jones looked really impressive today and could make that position his own.

I would rather see Jones get settled as a centre back, I think he is more suited to there in the long term, I would rather buy a good cm and slot him back to his original position

I agree he could play there (he could play anywhere and look the part), but if we cant find anyone for that position, Jones would not be too shabby and could really excell if he was to be played in that position constantly. The energy, strengh and leadership he adds in midfield is something we need more than in defence. I still think Smalling is the better centre back at this moment in time but anything is possible for Jones. (sorry for going off topic)

I agree, I think he could play in the middle anywhere really to a great standard, but i think it is so rare to find a great young centre back and we have one. now we have a few injuries and ferdinands getting old we need to get him and smalling into them cb positions and get a partenership built up that can last ten years
