Just been reading my twitter and saw these tweets by Paul Dalglish: Now, I realise there are enough questions in there for about seven different articles but still, I thought it would be interesting... Key: AVB: Andre Villas Boas Rafa: Rafael Benitez RM: Roberto Martinez LVG: Louis Van Gaal (cheers MITO)
louis van gaal.... i'd have thought paul dalglish would know better..... a manager picks a team to suit the players not players to suit the formation. Martainez only survived by happening on 3-4-3 to suit his donkey cb.
Cheers He has been talking sense and along those lines for over a week. I think he his just trying to look at things from a different perspective as a LFC fan. I'm sure he gets just as fed up with the non-news as we do

If Martinez comes in and insists on changing to a 3-4-3 formation, that pretty much makes Johnson and Enrique useless unless the two wider players in the 4 play as wing backs rather than right wingers, and let the front 3 stretch the opposition like a typical 4-3-3 system. 3 at the back means we could bring Coates through and Kelly in his correct position, which has its positives. To me though, it's alot of changing around just to force a system which won't really suit our strongest setup. I presonally feel that our back 5 is something really solid to build on for the next few years and we shouldn't be playing around with it. Whether we go 4-5-1, 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1 or whatever, I believe we shoul stick with a flat back 4 where Enrique and Johnson are comfortable and Skrtel and Agger can continue to improve their impressive partnership.
Totally agree and I really don't see Martinez coming in (if he gets the job) and changing it to a 434 anyway (Just thought it would be interesting to play along with Paul's suggestion). I think he just did that because it suited the Wigan players, proven by the fact that Wigan started to pick up points after the system switch. Didn't he play a 4231/451/433 type system beforehand? On Johnson and Enrique, I'd push Glen forward (and no, I am not in favour of him being tried as a winger) but think Enrique would be at a loss. I certainly don't want to see that happen.
3-4-3 Reina Kelly - Skrtel - Agger Gerrard - Adam - Lucas - Downing Suarez - Carroll - Bellamy 4-3-3 Reina Johnson - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique Gerrard - Lucas - Adam Suarez - Carroll - Downing 4-4-2 Reina Johnson - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique Downing - Gerrard - Lucas - Bellamy Suarez - Carroll 4-2-3-1 Reina Johnson - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique Lucas - Adam Suarez - Gerrard - Bellamy Carroll
Johnson is suited for that role of right midfielder. He is as good in the attacking half as he is in the defensive half. Watch Maggio for Napoli and how he plays the role, Glen Johnson could play like him and add even more to the team in an attacking sense. Enrique though? Yes, he would be marginalised, but some might say with his form since January that it wouldn't be such a bad thing.
Funilly enough, it was Napoli I was thinking about also. They have, effectively, 4 defensive midfielders with the 2 central ones sitting and the 2 wider ones acting as wing backs. I think Enrique could adapt, but would take time
Pretty much agree with what was said before, but with one change. Reina Skrtel - Carragher - Agger Johnson - Gerrard - Lucas - Downing Suarez - Carroll - Bellamy 4-3-3 Reina Johnson - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique Gerrard - Lucas - Adam Suarez - Carroll - Downing 4-4-2 Reina Johnson - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique Kuyt - Gerrard - Lucas - Downing Suarez - Carroll 4-2-3-1 Reina Johnson - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique Lucas - Adam Suarez - Gerrard - Downing Carroll[/CENTER]
One of the wide players tucks in (usually opposite to the side the opposition are attacking) to make it 4 at the back. So it wouldn't be that tough for Enrique to adapt defensively, the worry would be him going forward because he doesn't release the ball quickly enough and more often than not makes the wrong decision on the ball. This might sound ridiculous but Johnson to the left in that formation and Hendo on the right could be more effective, going on his performance at Blackburn.
One of the biggest disappointments for me was seeing how ineffectual Enrique is at delivering something once he's in the opposition half. He's great at defending and bringing the ball forward, then it all breaks down and it's either a sideways or backwards pass, usually to Downing, and we all know his record for goals & assists.
Offensively, he's pretty limited and should be capable of better. He does the odd good long ball mind. I feel that his biggest problem is that he crosses the ball far too early. He's always guilty of it. And I think a lack of chemistry between him and Downing doesn't really help.
And that's always worked for England. Pick the square peg players and bash them into the round hole formation. Why would you want to pick a left winger for the left wing when you can stick Steven Gerrard out there?
To be fair to the lad, he could get to the byline, hang about making a cup of tea for ten minutes, scratch his arse, have a picnic and was his hair before looking to cross and he would still be too early with this Liverpool attack
