From what we know about his struggles in pre season training, it somehow seems apt that he retires having presumably putting himself through it. Will always remember that goal vs Leeds! The first time we beat the European Champions in my life time. It seemed a huge landmark in our progress. Never believed at the time it would be the start of a full decade of us finishing higher than them in the league. Oh and of course Wnterton away pre season! Good luck to him though with whatever he does.
Unfortunately, those highlights v Leeds don't show his late clearance of our goal line to keep the 1-0 lead. Pretty much as important as the goal. He was on fire that day. I intended taking in the odd game at York's new stadium and was looking forward to seeing him play. Oh well.
