Does this mean we will be going into the season with only Trotta and Petric as our strikers? I'm worried.

Loads of websites this morning linking Dempsey to Liverpool in a £6mil move... It would be nice to get more for him but at 29 with a year left on his I guess £6mil is a fair price. I would be amazed if he was still with us come August but am still hoping I'm wrong.

I guess it's a good thing he is under 30 still otherwise I'm sure Mark Hughes would be going all guns for him....

I would certainly be disappointed if we let Dempsey go for £6m to Liverpool. Without doubt it would be better for us to let Dempsey run his contract out and go for free next year; either way he's not playing Champions League football next year.

Of course if he wants to leave that may force our hand, but that rumoured Liverpool deal is not a good deal for us at all.

I know what you mean, Bandit, but I guess it depends on what formation Jol has in mind. If he's planning a 4-2-3-1 on a regular basis we don't need four or five senior strikers. If Jol sees Petric as the 1 rather than one of the 3, then Trotta provides a back up and there's no problem until someone gets injured. If that happens, I presume that Dalla Valle or Danny Hoessen would be the ones to step up and get their chance. Don't forget, DemPele, Ruiz and Duff have all played as strikers in their careers (although I don't think that would be the best position for any of them now). I'd still be surprised not to see another striker coming in before the end of August, particularly if Dempsey goes.

The Guardian's always-entertaining transfer gossip round up says Clint could be going to Liverpool for - wait for it - £17m. I'm only reporting this, I'm not saying I believe it. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/jul/10/football-transfer-rumours-oscar-chelsea

At that price, if a significant part of the money was invested well, I'd be okay with the move. But the two provisos in that last sentence are biggies!

Also, they say Wolves now want £15m for Fletcher. I'm keener on Fletcher than some of you, but not at that price.

£17m? I would sell and buy 2-3 players with that sort of money... Unless Clint does not want to move in which case pay him to stay!!

To quote Jol, "Sure Clint gets us a lot of goals but you can't rely on that. We need to do something about it."

I tend to trust him. At the moment, there's more spoof and spam out there than there is truth. Let's wait and see.

From what I've read on Dutch websites there are bigger clubs that would want to take Hoesen.
Hoesen might have his work cut out to get a game for us with Frei and Kaca first in the running.
Of course there were rumors that Man City were trying to nick Frei off us.

If I was Dempsey I wouldn't choose to go to Liverpool, best to go abroad for Champions League football.
Can't see Arsenal paying an asking price of £8m. I still think that the Dempsey and Dembele transfers might
not happen until late in the transfer window, which won't help us get replacements, that's when the top teams will find out that they can't get
their preferred players and will look lower down their list of players for the likes of Dempsey or Dembele.

Just harking back to the Capt's comment that Wolves want £15m for Norman Stanley. I simply cannot understand that. He's okay, but not £15m okay. By that reckoning Dembele is worth about £28m and Demps about £20m. Is it just because he is British? Or are Wolves in some terrible financial mess.

Oh, just go away, will you? I can't speak for anyone else but I'm heartily sick of QPR fans coming on here making lame, offensive jokes about how our nickname - from a more innocent age - relates to sexual offenses. I respectfully suggest that you grow up.

I'm also getting heartily fed up with QPR fans coming on here to WUM. I've never clicked to ignore anyone on this site, but I'm seriously tempted to do that to all the QPR posters who keep coming onto our board. It's either that or I'll start just replying '6-0' to anything that any of you say. Apologies to R's fans who actually want to engage in genuine discussion - and I know there are some in that category - but as for the WUMs, why don't you just keep to your own board where I'm quite happy for you to say whatever you want about us. And, just for the record, I don't think AJ and Zamora have betrayed us by joining you, I think Hughes will do a good job this season, but I'm not worried that you are going to overtake us. Now go away, please.

Normally I'd simply click the 'Likes' button, Captain. However in this instance I specifically want to add my support for your well chosen words and the advice that you offer this sycophant. While any addition would appear superfluous, I nonetheless will quote Cesare Pavese to those concerned -

" All sins have their origin in a sense of inferiority otherwise called ambition. "

Guys, relax... The inferiority complex is very strong. Their problem is that we are looking forward and not back. And they have to look up to us!!

    Now jog on!

I have to say that selling Dempsey for 6 million would be ridiculous. Yes, he is 29 but he scored 23 goals last season and stayed fairly injury free. He is worth t least 10 - 12 million in my opinion. I could see us selling him for money and a player swap. How would everyone feel if we sold him for 5 million plus Charlie Adam. Liverpool paid 7 million for him and he is not getting much first team football. He is 26 years old and would slot in nicely where Danny left off. Also hearing that Man Utd are sniffing around Dembele. I would be truly gutted if we sold him but could again see us selling plus player exchange. If we got good cash plus Berbatov that could be an interesting deal, nnot sure it would happen though as I am sure he would be a stupid slary there. Jol will pick up another striker though, but agree that it would be wise to assess our youngsters before flying into the transfer market too quickly.

You can 'ignore' people on this forum? I'll remember that for when the season starts. Funny how that lot have started chirping up once they've signed a couple of geriatrics (our rejects, no less), they were quiet for the whole season after we humiliated them 6-0.

I do still think we need to ignore them. Old NORT soon cleared off from the other thread when he realised his wumming was a waste of time.

I would have problems with Dempsey joining Liverpool as he said he wanted Champions League football, and I'd still have those problems if we got £100m for him. Liverpool finished level on points with us last season, and are not in the CL, nor are they likely to be before Dempsey is past his best. If he goes there, it'll be for the money.
