Reports today linking us (as well as Sunderland and Stoke) with Wolves' Steven Fletcher. I've always liked him and was surprised to find out he's only 25. Wolves are saying he'll cost £10m, but that might just be a negotiating position. I think he'd be a great signing. As for Sturridge, he'd be even better. I can see him moving this summer, assuming that his current meningitis scare doesn't come to anything, but I think it will be to a club a notch above us - a club pushing for Champions League involvement, rather than one who pushes for Europa League involvement. If I'm wrong and we get him, I'll be delighted.
I'm not convinced on Rodallega, he looks good at Wigan but then so would I if I played up front for them… He’s only scored 11 goals in the last two seasons for them which is hardly impressive. I know he is on a free but I personally would give him a miss… I think he is a Colombian AJ
Fletcher will be a decent player for us although maybe Doyle would be better! £10m for Fletcher a bit too much though.
I'd take Fletcher over Doyle, but I suspect that we won't get either as other clubs will be willing to outbid us, in wages if not in transfer fee.
I agree Captain Iâve always liked Steven Fletcher, heâs a decent striker and think he would be a good signing, I must admit I thought he was older than 25 too. When you think we (some how) got £6mil for Zamora then if we could get him for what we got for Zamora plus a few Mil I think that would be a good deal. I'd take Fletcher or Doyle any day.
You could say the same about Fletcher and/or Doyle! I don't see what the big deal is about either, certainly nothing to warrant spending £10m on. I'm not sure they're even the right players for our system.
I think Fletcher is a step up from Rodallega and Doyle. He as a 1 in 3 strike rate in the Premier League which at a poor side like Wolves is good. He has a better return that Zamora, and AJ, (in fact better than them combined) so think he would be a step up for us. I'd have to agree 10Mill is excessive but I'd take him for £8Mil
We could do with Rodallega anyway, we don't have many backup strikers either! If Fletcher joins and starts banging them in then brilliant, but I wouldn't be over the moon if he was brought in as our main striker.
Fletcher scored 10 and 12 goals in 29 and 32 league games for Wolves in the last two seasons. He's a clinical finisher, probably more so than any that we've had in recent years. He'll get more chances playing for us than he did for Wolves. I think he'd be very good for us. I'm not saying we can't do better, but he'd be an excellent signing.
Agree with all of the above; well in as far as I believe there is agreement that he would be decent signing. And as Captain says, he's quite clinical, although more from deep postions (dare I say it, a bit like Dempsey !). Also mostly headers (oh, oh !). However, again agree with the consensus, not at £10m - he's got 2 years left on his contract with Wolves, so £6/7m maybe. As well as Sunderland, Stoke are in the fray. I've always liked Doyle, particularly for his work rate. And he is more the 'front man' than Fletcher. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to have a nutural goal scoring instinct. Would be second choice if it was betwee him and Fletcher.
I've always liked Rodallega ... he has two things we lack: pace and youth. I hope we can make that happen. Fletcher I'm less enthusiastic about.
I see a number of web sites this morning are linking us with a move for Paul Robinson.... I can;t quite see why unless Big Maart doesn't see Stockdale as a long term replacement for MS. If we were to loose Stockdale I'd be happy with Robinson as he is pretty solid, Plus at 32 he still has a few years left. Also linked to Chris David of FC Twente however I must admit I don;t know a lot about him, apart from what the article mentions http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Fulham-eye-swoop-Paul-Robinson-Blackburn.html http://www.westlondonsport.com/paper-talk/fulham-linked-with-blackburn-keeper-and-dutch-prospect/
Sacha Reither German papers are reporting that we're about to sign the 29 year old right back from Cologne 9the 7th item down in this article) - http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://liga-zwei.de/&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dliga-zwei.de%26hl%3Den%26qscrl%3D1%26nord%3D1%26rlz%3D1T4ADFA_enGB400GB402%26biw%3D1366%26bih%3D530%26prmd%3Dimvns&sa=X&ei=r0P1T-euCoic0AWcwpzABw&sqi=2&ved=0CFQQ7gEwAA He's valued at £2m - http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?hl=en&sl=de&u=http://www.transfermarkt.de/de/sascha-riether/profil/spieler_1662.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dsacha%2Breither%2Bnews%26hl%3Den%26qscrl%3D1%26nord%3D1%26rlz%3D1T4ADFA_enGB400GB402%26biw%3D1366%26bih%3D530%26prmd%3Dimvnso&sa=X&ei=Hkf1T6WTNI2V0QXRqeWYBw&sqi=2&ved=0CFoQ7gEwAg
I would not be to fazed if we bought Paul Robinson, playing him on a rotational basis with Mark Swartzer, in my mind would make perfect sense,as I have said in previous threads not to sure about David Stockdale, so for me it would not be a great loss to see him go,with the proviso of the aforementioned signing.
I agree with with regards to Paul Robinson. I quite rate Stockdale however He's only every really had a run of 4-5 games in the first team so despite (in my opinion) impressing its hard to say if he has the quality to replace MS long term. If we were to get Robinson and let Stockdale go I'd be happy with that.
I've seen reports linking us with Jack Butland at Birmingham who was England's third choice keeper at the Euro's. Stockdale plus a bit of cash is the deal on the table, which I would be very happy with. Not that I don't rate Stockdale, but Butland will become a better keeper, so Butland as first choice next year with Etheridge as back up.
