Look's like we're getting a bloke with fire in his belly. Bags of charisma who can be hilarious one minute and an absolute cock the next. I certainly think he can get a reaction from the players though I'm sceptical due to his experience.

He'll have my full backing like any manager but what I was wondering is if anybody knows anything about his football philosophy? I considered asking on the Swindon board but it's like a ghost on there and besides which, League One football is a million miles away from the premiership. So what can we expect? I haven't got a clue and that makes me quite nervous.

I think he plays a good style of football, can't be worse than what we had

For better or for worse, I can't remember being this excited about a managerial appointment. Could be great, could be a disaster. It will NOT be boring.

It's up to us to give him the best possible chance to succeed..I feel both excited and scared over this appointment, and in my opinion it is a very bold move by Short..

"England is the perfect place to play football. In Italy, you get a goal, then kill the game. That is the mentality. In England, it's 90 minutes of battle." Paolo Di Canio.

This could get interesting to say the least.

I felt reassured by MONs appointment as opposed to excitement. Di Canio is an untested quantity really, MRawhite summed things up perfectly.

After years of defensive minded players being in charge, its going to be refreshing to have a former centre forward in charge

At least we won't sit back for 45mins at home playing one up front to a league 2 side in the FA Cup. Di Canio will have them attacking for the full 90mins, putting the boot up their arses if they start to slack off.

Like to rest, I dunno how i feel about this appointment if it comes off... I am apprehensive, excited, worried, and giddy all at the same time. I would love Moyes, but that won't ever happen.

I hear Alan Curbishley will be joining as PDC's assistant. I think that would be a shrewd move.

Good luck for the rest of the season!

Is this confirmed yet?? What about waiting until the summer and getting a guy like Jupp Heynkes (the current Bayern coach or tempt Swansea with shed loads of moeny for Michael Laudrup? These are my constructive thoughts and either would get you playing to your potential (top 10 and maybe higher in the Premiership eventually)

I love SAFC, but not a hope in hell of getting someone from Bayern to Sunderland. And I would love Laudraupp, but again, that wont happen.

Very nice ideas but both highly unlikely unfortunately. Laudrup having just signed a new deal probably won't leave. And the Bayern coach is retiring at the end of the season. Hence why Pep is headed there

Di Canio has potential to go far hopefully we help him fulfil it!

Wouldn't mind Pocchetini (spelt wrong, I know) haha!

If his philosophy is to teach our players to score goals like this, he will do for me.
The best goal the premier league has ever seen ?

Laudrup to the mackems? No chance, not because the swans are bigger, they are alot smaller club than you but because he will be off to Spain when he finishes with us. He doesn't really need the hassle either and the Swansea style of play was already I place. There's alot of work to do up there and it will be pain before glory I feel.

De canio will be perfect for you short term , it's gonna be interesting to watch...good luck .
