I like Ozil, but he has had one good world cup and everyone thinks he is great, he is good but not world class. But he cost less then Di María <whistle>

Your desperation to wind up Arsenal fans is on a different level to anyone else on this site. Even HIAG doesn't have this level of obsession.

Go outside, get some fresh air, maybe leave the internet alone for a while.

To be fair that is a shocking big games record for a 43 million pound player.

Not quite sure what he does really. I nice little flick here and there but really doesn't cut the mustard in the P.L. The OX looks a far more productive player for instance. People are also quick to have a go at Oscar whose stats I'm sure show a far greater contribution.

Ozils been our best player in 2015 which has coincided with our best form of the season. Criticism of Ozil is lazy and shows people haven't been watching him. He's been fantastic. I checked his stats earlier in the season when he'd played 57 games for Arsenal and he had exactly the same stats as silva for the previous 57 games.

He had a better first season in this country than most do and this season he's been brilliant. Quality player and my first name on the team sheet. A week or two ago I read an article that had Hazard and Ozil tied for statistically the best AM in the top five European leagues.

Putting down Ozil is lazy and shows you don't watch him. Ozil signs for Arsenal, Arsenal proceed to win the FA Cup and Community shield, likely followed by retaining the FA Cup, having not won anything for the best part of a decade previously. You can slate him all you like, I'm quite happy with how our fortunes have changed since he signed for the club and he is a big part of our team.

On our board he has been voted in almost everyone's top 3 players of almost every game since he returned from injury. He is currently rated very highly by Arsenal fans who are the ones who watch him week in, week out.

That article has it's stats wrong as Ozil has one more assist in the league than Ivanovic after Ivanovic got an assist against Leicster. It also points out that Ozil has played only 50% of the games Ivanovic has due to injury. It doesn't show anything other than Ivanovic is doing well <laugh>

A more interesting comparison is hazard with 9 assists in 48 games compared to Ozil with 9 assists in 26 games.

Or Oscar with 9 assists in 41 games. Or Silva with 9 assists in 38 games.

Coutinho who plays the same position and got into the PFA team of the year has 5 assists in 48 apps.

Eriksen who gets loads of plaudits for how creative he is has 5 assists in 44 games.

My point being firstly you can use the same stat that makes Ivanovic look good to make the best creative players in the league look bad. And secondly that Ozil is doing far better on the assists front than most of the other creative AMs in the league.

Guess I don't watch Arsenal as much as some on this thread but I still don't see what he actually does most of the time.

Non-one else outside of Arsenal fans seem to rate him that highly though. I accept some people won't watch you much but most pundits and football commentators don't think he does enough either. I'd expect his assist stats to be high as that's pretty much all he seems to contribute. He's not particularly hard working and certainly doesn't score much.

He's not a bad player but I think he is a bit of a luxury player myself.

And as the above points out, when was the last time he actually put in a match winning performance against a top side?

That's fair enough but like Arsenal he goes missing in big games. Maybe he wouldn't if he played for a club with more ambition?

Maybe not... the Germans had a word for him can't remember it but it was their equivalent of big game bottler. I thought he ha a good World Cup and proved them wrong. Madristas thought he went missing too.It is harsh but Germany and Madrid specialise in success and do not tolerate Failure like Arsenal

Other than when Michael Owen is commentating on our games ozil has had consistent praise in 2015. So it's definitely been noticed outside of the club.

In terms of top performances against top sides, he has goals or assists against all of Everton, Tottenham and Liverpool (Chelsea is the only other top side in the league he has played against and it was a boring 0-0) this calendar year and assisted both our goals in a tight fought fa cup semi final to put us through to the final (against utd he didn't assist a goal but was involved in the build up to the first). So of the six biggest games he's played since returning from injury he has scored or assisted in four.

It's also worth remembering that the same "he isn't the same in big games" line was used to show that Suarez was supposedly not all that good.

And that in the big games, particularly against teams like Chelsea, the game is tight, one team defends the whole time and it's very difficult for any player to make the difference. I'd imagine if we look at the other players considered the best in the league they perform more often against the lesser teams also, or in the more open games.

Also this idea that he isn't hard working is nonsense, there's loads of stats floating about that show he covers more ground that most Arsenal players. It's just his style comes across like he isn't trying hard. He busts a gut to get up and down the pitch and works hard off the ball to create and exploit the spaces.

As for being a luxury player, I'm not sure, he is an attacking player and when his strengths are played to he is the best in the world at what he does. But he can't be expected to be a defensive winger for example. I don't think it's any surprise that our lift in form has coincided with his return from injury.

I think it's a bit much to say he's the "best in the world at what he does" when a team plays to his strengths.

Good player no doubt but for £40m+ I'd be wanting more.

Ozil is the best at what he does when a team plays to his strengths. He's proved it at club level in Germany, Spain and England (7 goals and 15 assists for a first season isn't bad at all and maintained his record of most assists over the last five years in the top European leagues) and consistently at international level having performed at two world cups and a youth World Cup.

He's been called the best number ten in the world by several high profile names including Jose Mourinho.

So I don't think it's a bit much to suggest that when a team is set up to his strengths he is the best at what he does as he has a consistent track record.

He may not have hit the heights he did at Madrid for us yet but he had a solid first season and has probably been our best player of 2015.

I'd pay the £40m all over again ;)
