No. Just no. 1). He's on mega wages 2). He's hardly played in two years 3). I know it's unusual but we are building a progressive team so no journeymen players please.
Wouldn't mind but not likely for three reasons: doesn't fit in with Adkins team building, wages and he will want a top-league team in UK or Europe. We want players who buy into 'the dream' and for whom Saints is first choice.
Agree entirely with points 1 and 2, but journeyman?? 2 clubs only and Bayern Munich and Manure .... Hardly a journey? Still a no though.
Apparently, no Insurance company will cover him. Players are not just insured for their own injuries, but any they may cause to other players.
worth a punt on a pay as you play or maybe a 1 year deal, the wages maybe a problem but if he just wants to get back playing then he might be more willing to drop his demands to something more reasonable. To be fair though he is currently being paid zip! I suspect if he did join us and does indeed prove his fitness but we arent battering at the prem door in January then a fulham or bolton will have him off us
OK, a bad term - it was early. He's 30 and will be 31 in January next year and how much disruption to the team will there be to play him for one maybe two seasons. I don't think it's worth it, especially as midfield is a crucial area to improve while mindful of any young talent coming through (e.g. Ward-Prowse). Also, he's a decent player so I'd expect a premiership team to come in, and if what CBK is true, they'll be the only ones that can afford to pay-out on injuries.
I think he would be best off doing his coaching badges early doors and trying to get in the backroom staff of a decent club, even if he is fit he won't be the player he was a few years ago after two years out of the game.
