This appears to be a positive discrimination thread in favour of the over 50s. Is it another 'Rooney rule'? He certainly likes the over 50s.

This is an equal opportunities board so we can't favour old bastards or criticise an age group in any way.

What happens if you're under 50 but remember watching SuperMac?

What happens if you are over 50 and due to early onset of Alzheimer's can't even remember who played centre forward last weekend.

Supermac for me as a lad, (allowing that I used to insist on rolling my socks down, so I could be like Gerd Muller mind).

But Shearer all day long as a sensible semi grown-up (ish)

(Watching MoTD doing their 50 yr clips... I Forget how the pitches give a damn fine impression of the battle of the Somme at times)

Supermac, if you look at their career stats they both are in fact very close, Shearer 0.517 goals per game, Supermac 0.513 goals per game, Supermac's career was shorter as he was only 29 when injury ended his career, also when you consider the playing conditions of the pitches, heavier balls and a much more physical attitude I would pick Macdonald.

Has to be Supermac for me.

The classic move was Terry Hibbett over the top and Supermac running on to it. Sheer excitement.

Shearer for me. Supermac was great to watch and scored the best goal I will ever see into the Leazes end against Leicester around 1975. Anyone who witnessed that will say the same. But on the downside to him, the twat parked his car on my foot outside the ground before a match one day.

His second goal in the semi final against Burnley is a classic example. From our penalty area, out to Hibbitt and a fifty yard pass right onto Supermacs foot. Brilliant! I was in the Burnley side for that game, couldn't get a ticket for our end. Never missed a game home or away in that cup run and still didn't get a ticket for the final.
