We sold Lonergan on Monday and nobody has come in. I am assuming Warnock is going to use that money to fund the purchase of Austin? Two weeks back Portsmouth were expecting a £300k deal for Varney to be completed. Two weeks back Peltier was said to be on the verge of joining us... As much as I am saddened that there has not been any takeover news today I am even more shocked that we haven't added to the squad this week? Thoughts anyone?? Maybe Warnock has a shopping list A and a shopping list B - Is he waiting for the T/O to bring in players on his preferred list?
You daft apeth. Lonergan's money went to the British Virgin Islands. Snodgrass' money will also go the the British Virgin Islands. Bugger Colin's shopping list. The new lot can worry about that. Have we learned nothing over the last 7 years?
Interesting to see who he puts out tonight. Lets see who fills the gaps that have been left & also if transfer targets like Ross & Snod start as well
You start to worry about what damage it might have long term, another weekend and another week not securing anyone watching rivals capture their targets. There are a lot of teams with new money to spend in this division this season and not an awful lot of players available.
I'm not to concerned about the lack of activity as such, deals come and go, there's breakthroughs and collapses, its just business. It needs to be understood that when going through a takeover transfers are very hard to finalize, i expect Austin is already looking for houses in Leeds. If Snodgrass is to leave i don't believe will leave untill the takeover is done, and if he does go it will be more his choice and Warnock not wanting uninterested players at the club. Give me a 6/10 fully commited player over 8/10 Snoddy not wanting to be here anyday. But as stated in a differant thread, i would love Snoddy to want to stay at LUFC.
It's quite annoying reading about our transfers. About a week ago I read that Leeds had a 200k bid turned down for Austin and that they were holding out for 300k and talks were ongoing. How long does it take to add another 100k onto that bid? It doesn't take a week of talks.
Yeah, I suppose. It's getting near the start of the season and we need an influx of transfers once this takeover's through though!
There are an awful lot of players available, but in comparison to last summer, this squad is shaping up very nicely for the moment. Come Monday or Tuesday, when we add Rodolph Austin, it will look even stronger, plus we have Crainie and Gray trialling, Rogers back from injury, and Warnock clealry keen to look at the kids and see whether any of them are ready for a step-up. It will be really interesting to see if any of the kids get a runout with the first team during the Cornwall trip. Then there's the possibility of McCormack and/or Snoddy leaving, providing us with funds to get some creative players in. Then there's the loan market where we have not exactly been successul under Grayson, but I would hope Colin can bring in a couple of class players and leave it at that until emergencies require any more. I am extremely upbeat about our prospects for the coming season
Even if Snoddy and McCormack both go, which would be very disappointing, I still think we're shaping up to be a better overall squad than last year.
I could not disagree more Simon - We have added Kenny a straight swap for Lonergan, agreed Pearce and Drury better than what we had and I am hoping Austin better than Clayton but that is it? Without Snoddy and McCormack we are going to be so weak it is unbelievable and we still haven't replaced Howson or is Green his replacement. We have just added a keeper Ashdown who failed to impress while on trial with Birmingham and a 34 year old striker. I am starting to worry if this T/O has gone tits up with some of these players, Norris and Varney - Hardly exciting is it... We screamed blue murder about Grayson and his lack of funding, it looks like Warnock isn't going to be given a pot to piss in either...
Who did you expect to come in as the 2nd choice 'keeper, Iker Casillas? I seriously am interested to hear who you think would be willing to be a 2nd choice Championship GK who's better.
Is Cairns good enough? If Warnock thinks not then a youngster who can progress or he should have kept Lonergan. If that wasn't an option we use the loan market WHEN/IF we need a reserve keeper. We still have Rachbuka, when he joined plenty said he will be okay as back-up - He wasn't.
Colin said only the other day he would look to sign another 'keeper, Cairns clearly isn't ready. I don't see what Rachubka has to do with it either. Find me a club that doesn't have at least 1 reserve goalkeeper. People need to get out of the habit of assuming every signing will be going straight into the starting 11. Half our squad's on the transfer list FFS.
Okay so you believe with a takeover round the corner we needed to cash in £200k for Lonergan only to replace him with a keeper of the calibre of Ashdown? Would it have not been better keeping Lonergan?
So, Colin said he wanted 8 more new faces and that's 3 now joined. What's everyone thinking about the next 5? Ashdown, Gray, Varney, (Austin), (Cranie), (McGugan), (Russell), (Templeton)?
Don't think you will be far wrong however... Without McCormack and Snoddy I can't see that being a promotion winning team. With them maybe a push for a top 6 but not very exciting in my opinion. Yes a couple of gems but we need better than Cranie, Varney and Gray
I think that would push for top 6 without McCormack and Snoddy, potentially automatic with them. Remember how much more solid we are looking in defence.
