Why do we pay over the odds for some players but then try lowball bids for other players? I understand and accept that we will pay over the odds for young british talent but I don't understand the low-balling and fannying about with other targets. whenever we're linked with someone there is always the tagline "But Liverpool are not prepared to pay the £Xm asking price. My business mind says this is great business sense and the right thing to do but the football fan in me is thinking MY GOD JUST STUMP UP THE EXTRA £2MILLION ALREADY!!!
Bozz, it's part of the risk of any negotiation. 2 golden rules of negotiation: (a) If you don't have to negotiate - don't, (b) Your first offer is the best that you are going to achieve. But also as a fan, I understand your feelings
I'm guessing the willingness to stump up is directly proportional to the time left for negotiations times the manager's keenness to sign a player. W = T x K There may be other random criteria affecting the equation. For example, we went in insultingly low for Suarez. When the Torres headline hit, the deal was suddenly done and actually knocked the Torres story off the headlines. It was practical and judicious. W = T x K/P
Look at the Suarez deal.Ajax tried to be funny with their £30 million asking price,so Damien Comolli went in low to get them to bring it down. However when Suarez declared that he was joining Liverpool or nobody, then Ajax had to back down.Liverpool upped their offer,Ajax brought theirs down and they agreed a compromise figure. All clubs do it.
Nobody knows who Liverpool are signing because they are keeping it ''in house'',they could be negotiating deals without telling anyone. We'll know when a deal has been agreed. If we signed all the players we've been linked with,we would have a squad bigger than Man Citys.
Yeah, I guess so. I reckon signing Suarez was a kind of a indication that we still are after foreign players.
They said they are interested in UK based players however at the right price. They intend to not be stitched up paying over the odds on mediocre players.
KingPepeReina couldn't agree with you more the work is getting done in private and the club will let us know when the deal is sealed .It is still early in the window we will just have to be patient Our club is in safe hands
This is my theory. Other people may disagree with me.Liverpool never discussed ''transfer budgets'' or ''Transfer targets'' You have never seen Kenny interviewed saying that he wants X player, nor have you seen Kenny being interviewed saying that he has X amount to spend.Theres two reasons for that. 1.If he says he has X amount to spend, clubs will put their prices up on their under-contract players.Guess what? They have every right to.Thats why you should never reveal your hand. 2.If a manager comes out and says he's interested in X player, the players owner gets the hump and accuses the potential buyer of being too big for its boots and digs their heels in and decides to not do business. They say ''talk to us and not the media''.And again they have every right to.
Couldn't agree with you more. Not to mention the possibility of a potential bidding war between clubs who are interested in the player.
good example this is another way of looking at it please log in to view this image as im sure we can all see there is method to the madness
I do hate to be pedantic, but that equation is wrong. I would have expected "willingness" to be greater the less time there is available to negotiate. Therefore, your equation should be:- W = K/T On this basis, "willingness" will increase the greater the level of "keeness" and the smaller the amount of "time" available.
Surely, if anything it's just W = K. 'Willingness' and 'Keeness' are exactly the same thing. The equation WHL set out above is right though, but I think the terms need revising. Maybe, Money offered = Interest (or even 'Need', although that will increase as time decreases anyway) / Time left to negotiate.
Yes! You see, I sent my school years trying to work this out and all along it was to do with Liverpool's transfer policy. If only I knew whilst I was doing my Maths GCSE...
