Luton winger Dave Martin on loan until January. please log in to view this image The 29-year-old will be at the Memorial Stadium until January. Manager Darrell Clarke said: âI have been chasing a winger for a couple of weeks, I wanted someone quick and direct who gets at the full backs. He is an out and out winger, and somebody I have been desperate to add to the squad. I am delighted that I have got him. He has been at a big football club in Luton, but he has been getting a bit frustrated there, as they have a massive squad at the minute. He wants to come here and get some games under his belt, but maybe looking to the future as well. He chips in with a few goals, he is very quick and direct and has good delivery, so he is just what we needed. He has played in the Championship, League One and League Two, and he knows the Conference very well. He is still very hungry and cannot wait to get started.â Martin began his career in non league, and whilst at Dartford, his goalscoring record caught the eye of Crystal Palace, who he joined in January 2007. In 2008 he moved across London to Millwall, helping the team to the League One Play-Off final in his first full season with the club. Martin signed on loan for Derby County until the end of the 2009/10 in February, with a view to a permanent move on expiration of his Millwall contract. He completed his permanent move in the summer of 2010, and whilst at Derby he had loan spells at Notts County and Walsall. In January 2012, he joined Southend United, joining Luton the following January after being released from his contract. Last season he spent time on loan at Conference side Dartford. Chairman Nick Higgs said: âI am delighted to welcome Dave to Bristol Rovers on loan. This is one of the areas where we needed to strengthen, and he will provide Darrell with another option. Now I will continue to support the manager in his search for a new striker.â http://www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/article/dave-martin-1830156.aspx
Tweet from a Luton fan.... "Very good signing for you. Excellent player who was unfortunate to lose his place at @LutonTown ."
I'd heard of him when he was at Millwall. Sounds like he could be an excellent addition. Welcome Dave!
Some fans already complaining on twitter who do they expect us 2 sign someone from Barcelona give the guy a chance I'm sure he will do good
Yup I mean we're all negative about are club at some point but a guy who has only just arrived it's just baffling
Sounds like he lost his way a bit, so hopefully he can get a good run of games, find his form and become a fan's favourite...
He looks better then I thought even had a loan spell at Derby league experience wise he's better then anything we have in our squad currently

Good luck and just maybe this could be the Guy to offer a bit of pace and ablity to the current under performers. Going back to The Eastville Days (Haroooold Jarman) and Aztec Twerton with Ollie and Percy Rovers fans have always had a good relationship with quality wingers. Lets hope Dave become a Legend (well at least for Rovers) as he is looking further than January. Prove your metal and the future could be bright. Again good luck Dave.
So formation to 442 I assume. Does this mean Harrison will get game time or will Sinclair go out wide (which he can do) could be interesting.
well clarke has said he has more than plan a. he has several things he can do during games. he said he wants players who can play in a number of different positions which is why he wants a small squad. higgs has said we have 1 of the biggest budgets in the league we are in. i was told by BSS that we have the same budget as last season. clarke has said he will only pay what he feels is appropriate on wages. he said he wont be held to ransom and of players want to come here thinking we pay out big then that will now change. thats all fair enough and understandable. clarke in the grimsby game changed formation from 352 to 442. in the barnet game he changed from 352 to 442 to 343. he is showing the different plans that he has in his pocket. but we dont have a proper winger at the club so at 442 the wingers we have wont be natural wingers. 352 uses the full backs as wing backs. i cant see this new player on loan becoming a wing back. so whenever he uses the 442 he will have a proper winger in place. i dont know what formation we will use. its the 1st time in ages where we may no longer be predictable to the opposition with our formation and tactics. this signing gives us more options to help out clarkes multiple plans. now we need a striker who WILL score 25 goals.
we need 2 players who can score 50 between them or 3 players who can score 60 between them, if we want to win the league. remember you need way over 90 points to win the league and in recent seasons that still hasnt been enough to win the league. brunt, taylor & white will hopefully stay match fit and not get injured. i will though be surprised if they get 30-35 between them based on pre-season and the 1st 2 games of the new season. still early but thats my prediction right now. hense we need another striker.
