A day of mixed performances apparently - "Kacaniklic is playing really well.....but isn't given enough of the ball. When he is, it's in a defensive position so ultimately he is not being allowed to play his game" "Trotta was trotting along, not putting in the work"
Don't read too much into it, Southampton are the division's top scorers, and they have one of if not the best defensive partnerships in the league in Fonte and Hooiveld. There are plenty of strikers who will fail to score against them this season. I think he should have started on the bench mind you.
I saw Trotta playing for a struggling Wycombe side against Bournemouth, in a match where one of their fans on not606 branded him 'Sunday league level'. What I saw then was him constantly working hard off the ball, with intelligent movement and looking to make things happen. I doubt I would have noticed that if I hadn't had a reason to pay particular attention to Trotta over and above the other players on the pitch. It's possible that the assessment of Trotta that Cottager quotes is correct, but's it's also possible that he was just a striker doing his best but not getting much chance to look good because his team were up against it. More positively, it sounds like Kacaniklic is doing well, which is good.
Kacaniklic came on in the second half and scored in Watford's 3-2 win over Burnley. Trotta stayed on bench.
