I quote "problem" because I don't think we have a problem per se more a dilema, which rests on the decision on allocating time for development. Rangel has been tremendous for us and has grown from humble beginnings into a solid but nonetheless aging RB. Taylor is seen by many of us as inadequate with just as many holding an opposite view. However, we have two players on our books that are up to the challenge in talent but need playing time for their own development. They are Amat and Richards (Jazz). Both have shown themselves to be more than capable of playing in the Prem. Both are technically solid, young and play our style with ease. Amat is somebody I would like to see tried at RB. Getting time at CB is going to be a challenge for him with Fed and now Bartley both very capable CBs. Jazz just needs to time and an opportunity. Both would not let us down. Both could improve our defense, our offense and be key players for us for seasons to come. THoughts?
Dont forget Tiendelli .To me the problem is a myth.In all positions if we dont lose anyone , we dont need anyone .
Modern full backs have to be quick and I wonder whether Amat has the pace for this position. Might be considered more as a defensive midfielder. Yankee mentioned development and I think Tiendalli is past that stage.
I agree with Nosugarman, I don't think Amat has the pace for right back. See Montero vs Chambers for what happens when a natural centre back plays right back. We don't want quick, nippy wingers roasting Amat down our right flank - it will dent his confidence and development at centre back (his best position by far). I'd also be surprised if Amat actually wanted to develop at right back. I think he's happy to fight for a centre back berth, especially know that Ashley Williams is getting on a bit now. Jazz is clearly up to the task at right back, so the focus for me is left back. The way things are going, we should just pay Tottenham a small fee and get Ben Davies back. That would probably make Neil Taylor leave though, so we'd still be looking for a left back anyway. Tricky situation with Neil, especially as he's coming back to some form now.
" We should pay Tottenham a small fee and get Davies back" ....Im sure the Spurs will jump at the oppourtinity...
I personally believe bringing BD back atm would be a backward step. LB at Spurs isn't exactly strong, and he can't get into their side.
Ben's started the last 3 Premier League games for Tottenham hasn't he? And played in every Europa League game. Why on earth would Spurs want to sell him?
Davies has just been playing Premier League games of late.Watched a few Europa group games that he played and although coming forward he looked pretty good , he was caught out of position many times and lazy trying to get back ...same old same old imo .I personally think he is not smart enough to figure the when and when nots of going forward .I also think scoring a few goals early with us wasnt good for his learning of the position , all he wanted to do after those early goals was go forward , recklessly.
No thanks, but kind of you to offer!................ We need LB cover more than RB, as Rangel has Jazz and Tiendalli as cover, both good cover in my view..........
