Why not start taking the p*** out of politicians instead. It is much more fun and politicians are there to have the p***taken out of them, We could start with Boris, then the Itchen MP, then the Respect clown, George Galloway. Funniest moment this year was the Barca v Athletic Bilbao Final when both sets of fans gave the Madrid establishment the two fingers. I would love it if we could set up a friendship with the radical supporters of St Pauli. After all they are Saints!!!

It is just pathetic and makes Saints supporters behave like sheep singing anything to do with Pompey. They are what 60 odd places below us in the pyramid. Bournemouth are our nearest rivals and would hate it to sing anything anti-Bournemouth, and I love Bournemouth as I always want all teams in the Solent region to do well.

League positions change. Club standings go up and down. Historical rivals remain.

I hate (or today's non-emotional view - really dislike) Pompey. That's just the way it is. It may be different for older generations who would go to both grounds on alternate weeks, but it wasn't like that for me. I came up in a time when they were mostly several leagues below us, but grew up anti-Pompey. I still am and have other reasons to dislike them too!

Bournemouth can stay up for the next 5-10 years, but they wouldn't replace Pompey for me.

Reasonable response FLT!! Still think we could do better with dissing politicians of all colours, that would show more intelligence and class. I really think fans up and down the country should indulge in dissing these guys rather than opposing teams or rivals after all it is these guys who are responsible for the mess we are in. Not just the Tories but Labour as well so I am being fair. Let's have a diss politician day at St Mary's!!

I just don't like discussing politics. I find people less reasonable than when talking about their football team. Zero flexibility.

I'm not really discussing politics. I would not want to offend any Tory voter just by taking the p*** out of the Tories, Labour are legit targets as well, so it is all politicians, and the establishment as well. Where is St Godders when you need him? Maybe he could get the campaign going?

Start of the second half when we were piling on the pressure at 1-1 was really really loud.

'Are you watching Pompey Scum' was even louder towards the end.

My favourite is still 'What's it like to support your local team' :)

What ARE you on about ! Saints fans, or any other football fans for that matter, are not going to sing songs about bloody politicians. They will continue to sing songs about the opposition and/or their main local rivals til the cows come home ! Thousands do so at any given football match and they do it because they like it and its part of football culture. I just cannot imagine you at a football match, especially an away game !

There would be more punch ups at matches if politics was brought into it. Football is real life....the rest is ephemera. :)

I admit I am in a minority as I do not sing garbage songs about Pompey or any other team, and since Pompey are so far down the pyramid, it is futile to sing about them, therefore it is better to diss people that thoroughly deserve to be rubbished. Anyhow that's it and I'll shut up about the subject.

Lucky to be there, great day, great support.
Even when we were one down there was a feeling we could turn it round.
Probably not picked up on TV but at one point Mourinho gave us the finger, took that as a compliment!!

Pretending to hate your rivals and being vocal about it is all part of the pantomime and tradition. Nothing at all beats derby days, except maybe cup finals (and we don't get many of them). So if singing a thirty-second song every game keeps that humourous little tradition alive, so be it.

When you walk down the High Street of your local town with your 8 year old son wearing a Saints shirt and a pompey fan walks up to him, bends down and shouts 'scummer' into his face, I feel fully justified in singing a few songs. This may have happened a few years ago, but a few terrace chants are nothing compared to this. Take away the banter from the terraces and all you are left with is a sanitised, expensive and often inconsistent level of entertainment. You are better off going to the Mayflower, which is cheaper and you know what you are getting before you get there. Give me football any day with all the rough edges that go with it.

Oh, and I also forgot - a few years ago, cannot remember exactly when, Saints officially had the most tuneful supporters in the league, as reported in the Guardian. The report made mention of the particularly good rendition of the 'Pompey scum song'- I presume it may well have been when we were both in the premier league, but need to check with my brother who brought the report to my attention.

There was a time when anti-Pompey songs were amusing and humourous, like the wings of a sparrow and Fratton Park is falling down, but I cringe every time I hear the father's gun song. It is over the top and trying to say, "look how hard we are". I wouldn't mind so much if it was sung once a game and when the team is winning it just seems out of place.

When I was watching the 90 minutes last night I don't think I heard it once. Could be a turning point for our fanbase.
