Colly, best of luck with the CIMA. I don't want to belabour the point but Cashley spent c. £135m buying NUFC. He is providing interest free loans of c. £150m to NUFC. How many years of profits will it take for him to come close to recouping that outlay? If the financial position of SAFC and NUFC were reversed, and I were Cashley an offer of £150m would see me signing on the dotted line in a heartbeat. Write off the purchase cost and use the money for other things.

Long term financial future for PL clubs is dicey to say the least, TV revenues are set to drop like a stone after the European court rules soon. Understand your optimism, but the numbers just do not add up for a rosy future... sorry!!

You're right, I'd not even considered the loss he's taking with those loans being interest free. Time value of money, opportunity cost, all underlined in RED PEN in my notebook now. Appreciate the informed opinion though.

 

Colly, I'm sorry if it even appeared to you I was taking the proverbial, not meant to, just tried to get across my (now elderly) financial perspective clearly. That's the trouble with mail/internet as voice nuance can't be conveyed - always had trouble with that!! If we were not all fans with blinkers on we'd see the stupidity of owning any PL club. Only Arsenal do have the right set up, and unless their fans demand Wenger splash the cash big time, I can see them ruling English football for years to come!!
