I saw an interesting early bird offer today at Peterborough United and just wondered what other supporters think of it... The Posh already have their early bird offer out for next season, so regardless of what league they are in. Usual competitive prices but one caught my attention; They have something called a Platinum ticket, it is expensive even on early bird at £1,600! But bear with me. Firstly to help with the cost of that ticket you can pay it over four monthly instalments I believe, interest free subject to a £20 admin charge. But why so expensive... It gives you access to all 23 home league games AND all 23 away games. Still expensive, yes! but there is more... It also gives you coach travel included, it also gives you a food and drink voucher for each game (not sure if that is just at home or how much the voucher is valued at). It also gives you a match day programme for each game. It also gives you £10 discount each month to spend in the club shop. It also gives you two £10 tickets for friends i think. Basically it is the whole package. Is this cheap, not done my sums?
You lazy thing brb, - For 46 games, it works out at just under £35 per game ( probably down to about £32 if you account for a 'free' program ). A further 'discount' is applicable for the food & drink voucher ( probably £5+ ) Presumably Posh will do the logistics of providing away tickets, and the inclusion of coach fares is only for away games.It certainly looks a good deal if you can get to most, if not all the games............... it wouldn't work if you only go to home games.
I was thinking more for people like yourself that go to every game. I forgot to add it also includes every home and away friendly and every cup game, including play-offs and trips to Wembley, basically it covers you forevery eventuality.
I'm uncertain if the 'home' club actually achieve any more than with a 'conventional' season ticket offer --- there is a lot of money that is being taken, which is going out - to pay for away tickets, coach fares and catering --- all of which probably are not 'controlled' by the football club. I would suspect that there would be a very limited number of fans who would benefit from the Posh type of offer ---- what is needed are incentives to attract 'home town' supporters (( a successful team helps )).
Not pricing but more ease of getting/using a ticket, tomorrow we play Shrewsbury who are a similar sized club to ourselves, their season tickets are the credit card type with a quick scan on entry. If you buy tickets for just the games you attend their online system allows you to print your ticket at home and scan on entry. Hopefully we will come into the 21st century soon.
Definitely think the match ticket prices are one of the reasons our attendances have dropped this season. Especially the price increase to buy a ticket on the day also, just seems over the top.
Surely the club would be better to reduce averaging pricing than give away tickets. Don't get me wrong, i will snatch Scally's hand off all day long for fiver tickets but even im honest enough to admit he is under pricing the game, where longer term incentives would be better.
I appreciate that Scally has to try and make as much revenue for the club as possible but surely 4,200 at £27 isn't any better than 5,500+ if matchday tickets were only £20. A lot of people (including myself) aren't always able to commit to a game until the day itself and it's not overly fair they get monetarily penalised for those reasons.
