Woolwich attack: terrorist proclaimed 'an eye for an eye' after attack

A British soldier has been butchered on a busy London street by two Islamist terrorists, one of whom proclaimed afterwards: “An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.”

In the first terrorist murder on the British mainland since the 7/7 suicide bombings of 2005, the men attempted to behead the soldier, hacking at him like a “piece of meat” in front of dozens of witnesses, before both were shot by police who took around 20 minutes to arrive.

After the killing, one of the men, believed to be a British-born Muslim convert, spoke calmly into a witness’s video phone.

Speaking with a London accent, holding a knife and a meat cleaver and with his hands dripping with blood, he said: “We swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you until you leave us alone. Your people will never be safe. The only reason we have done this is because Muslims are dying by British soldiers every day.

“We must fight them as they fight us. An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. I apologise that women had to witness this today but in our lands our women have to see the same. You people will never be safe. Remove your government, they don’t care about you. Do you think David Cameron is going to get caught in the street when we start busting our guns? Do you think your politicians are going to die?

“No, it’s going to be the average guy like you, and your children. So get rid of them. Tell them to bring our troops back so we, so you can all live in peace.”

Witnesses said that the men used a car to run over the soldier just yards from the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich, south-east London, before setting about him with knives and a meat cleaver as if they were “trying to remove organs”. One unconfirmed report suggested that he had been beheaded.

Passers-by said they thought at first that the attackers were trying to help the man, who was wearing a Help for Heroes T-shirt, and only realised they were killing him when they got closer.

As they attacked the soldier, one of the men shouted “Allahu akbar”, or God is Great, according to the BBC, while another witness said they appeared to pray next to the body as if the solder was a “sacrifice”.

Their victim, thought to be aged around 20, had reportedly been on duty at an Army recruitment office in central London and was on his way back to the barracks when he was murdered at 2.20pm.

It emerged that passers-by went to the soldier’s aid. One of the killers ordered that only women could tend to the body, not men.

There were also questions over why it took around 20 minutes for armed police to arrive on the scene, during which time the killers calmly walked up and down the road, carrying their bloodied knives and a pistol, while members of the public confronted them.

When police did arrive, both gunmen tried to rush at the police and were shot, reportedly by a female officer.

    ****ing nuts I tell you.

I know people in the UK find this shocking in a society where life is not deemed worthless by a foreign power.

But the UN and its members and even its economies are responsible for untold slaughter suffering and poverty.

Since Iraq has been rid of Saddam nearly a million Iraqi people have died through the absolute shambles the place has become and bombings every week now. Lybia, people just disappear as easily as before but the new ruthless crowd are sympathetic to France and the US, so essentially so much blood letting for access to set up companies and make a fortune from Lybia

I wonder if anyone will hold an emergency meeting like Cameron the next time the UN kills another bunch of women and children? I doubt it. Hundreds of civilians killed this year alone, mostly children and barely an eyelid batted.

imagine you are a man living in Iraq Pakistan or Afghanistan and a UN chopper or drone kills your 2 children and\or your wife and unborn child, what do you do with that anger and hatred, how would you cope? Given there is no outlet for such grief I could imagine effective except for revenge and self destruction as your life has no meaning after losing your whole family to some arsewipe flying a drone remotely or Apache pilots killing without care.

I mean, they have killed a bunch of boys more than once! how hard is it to identify a bunch of kids before you blow 4 5 and 6 year old boys to ****ing pieces? And if it was your kid how would you take it?

How many of you have said if anyone hurt my kids I'd ****ing kill them? I have and would.

I do not even 1% agree with what those guys did, but I can understand why they are doing it. They have 0 chance for justice 0 chance to even try get justice, the UN just gives the family a few bob and says oh sorry we blew your kids to chunks sorry we slaughtered your whole family bar you, sorry about that, here's a cheque that might be worth something in your country but worth **** all to us, have a nice day

Spot on. Those guys are monsters, but they are monsters created by the actions of our government and the government of the USA. They are still entirely accountable for their own actions, but the government are equally culpable in my opinion.

R.I.P Lee. Nobody should experience what he had to go through, regardless of one's moral position on the Iraq war, or on soldiers in general.

Tony blair has Lee Rigby's blood on his hands imo.

Looks like a decent young lad, he like all those kids murdered in the mentioned countries didn't deserve to die, and in such a terrible way. ****ing shame.

And that's how we are seeing it from our pov, imagine how the world would seem with Israeli rockets slamming into your house or UN drones flying over your head never knowing when they might drop a load of bombs on you and yours.

Those saying this is a consequence of our governments actions....

You do know Islamic terrorists were planning and carrying out attacks on Britain and the rest of the world long before 9/11 or any invasion of Afghanistan or the second invasion of Iraq.

and who killed the million Iraqi's? US soldiers? British? French? German? Israeli? I am going to guess that the vast majority were killed by Iraqi's and or Islamic extremists from wherever. Same goes for the majority of deaths in Afghanistan.

RIP to Lee Rigby, brutally murdered in the name of make believe.

You do know Israeli rocket attacks are retaliatory attacks in response to the continued attacks on Israeli soil.

You could go back for the history of the human race & find a justification for going on a murderous spree. But that's all it ever is: an excuse. Be you a government or a bleeding heart.

I understand the concept that people believe they are fighting their cause against our governments well fine & good, by beheading a member of my society they'll not win me to their cause .....ever.

I find it tiresome hearing that a guy being hacked to death or beheaded or a town bombed is because our government or that government somewhere also killed people as if I shouldn't really moan or feel bad about it because someone else died.

It's not a competition. (Killing that is; at least the resources aquired as a result are of course) but I'm fed up with people that live in the comfortable west wringing their hands and saying you don't hear about this one or that one in this or that conflict zone (caused or not by our imperialism historic or current)

Actually I hear about many foreign travesties because I actively look at the news, and other media outlets. I also empathize in the same way as I have with this inccident when I hear of death and mutilation of the powerless at the hands of the powerful on any level. It's called being human.

I mean if I say it was terrible that my granny was mugged last week do I have to quantify it and say it was also terrible that every other granny in the world that was mugged? Of course not but every time one of our own society is killed these days I hear people leaping in with a qualification and pointing to numerous examples around the world as if I should feel guilty.

Well, I don't. I'm not a flag waver of any kind. I'm not religious. But I do live in this society and I have nothing but contempt for anyone within or without that feel arrogant enough to kill those they feel insulted them or represent an idea that they believe has caused them pain.

While we may have made some grievous foreign policy errors past and present, it might be remembered that if we had pursued those objectives at this level of totalitarian barbarism those countries would have been depopulated completely.

The attackers publicly claimed their actions as revenge for the British presence in the Muslim world, and so that's why people are saying that.

    From the BBC:

Nobody has suggested that without 9/11 and the subsequent 'war on terror' that we would never ever experience a terrorist attack committed in the name of Islam. But what people are saying is that we are perpetuating these attacks through pointless wars for problems that are not ours to solve. These monsters wanted to send a message to the government and to the media, they had no interest in escaping, they were clearly looking for 'suicide by cop' as the Americans put it.

One of the stupidest elements of this incident is that the media are using any excuse to show the footage of one of the attackers every few hours. Media coverage and sensationalist headlines are exactly what he wanted from this attack. And that's what we've given him, and it's what the US gave to the perpetrators behind Sandy Hook, Columbine, etc. We need to learn from our actions, but the BBC and the rest of the media are more bothered by delivering headlines <doh>

On one of our fan sites (Millwall) it has been suggested that we make the first match of the season "Help for Heroes Day."

We have an annual Help for Heroes Day already and raise more money from 10,000 than any Premier League club does. But the idea is to move the day to the first of the season so every other club can follow suit.

I've posted this here because yours was the only other board on here that mentions the attack.

Liverpool fans appear to have a good relationship with their board, could they lead the way and demand this? Hopefully all clubs in the league could follow suit.

Having a club like Liverpool behind it would really force the issue and give it the publicity it deserves.

The thick ****s never even been to Nigeria so the only experience of similar things happening in his streets is when he rammed his car into an innocent lad then proceeded to hack him up.

Fair point, it has gone a little bit muddled up

    http://www.ifamericansknew.org/stats/deaths.html

Here is a handy chart for you to look at <laugh>

Israel poke the Palestinians with a stick until they respond with missiles that hardly register on Israel's radar and then they strike.

Its like hitting a three year old in the face with a shovel because he's thrown a toy at you.

Hitting him in the face with a shovel...then building a wall around him then occupying his bedroom <ok>

Couldn't believe what I was watching on the news last night when this story broke. Brutal. No one from any side can ever justify such barbarity.
